Wet, Rainy, Dark and Blustery Day

ummertime and the living is wet.♫ Fish are jumpin' and it's windy and dark .♪ ♫ ♪

Nice to be safe inside. That safe inside feeling is one reason I like such days. I don't mind rides in the rain or walks with a nice rain coat and umbrella either, at least I didn't use to but inside is just as nice.

I can hear the big Cedars rustling in the wind outside the open window and the sound of the falling rain on the bushes and into the water.
It's dark enough for lights to be on inside but, I don't mind doing without. I don't want to disturb the feeling this kind of day brings.

I would rather sit here with my steaming cup of coffee and watch it all go by out my window.

You know you can find the best ideas in the Farmer's Almanac. Rainy days give me a nice chance to catch up on reading it.
Did you know that putting a drop of lemon oil or rosemary oil on your pets collar can keep away bugs? Adding Brewer's yeast to their diet discourages fleas too. Brewer's is a good source of B vitamins also.
I knew that lavendar oil helps produce estrogen and placed on the soles of feet or pulse points induces sleep and calm but it also seems to repel moths.
Wiping down countertops with white vinegar keeps flies from landing on them and keeping a vase of fresh mint around discourages flies too.
Coffee grounds can repel ants as does pennyroyal or bands of crushed eggshells. They won't cross them for some reason.
Another way to repel ants in the kitchen,is to put a few drops of clove or peppermint oil on a cloth and wipe countertops and backsplashes. The kitchen will smell nice too.
Did you know that the dog days of Summer are the 40 days beginning July 3 and ending August 11?
Also it seems that thunderstorms are very common in July.
How is your summer so far? What are you doing ?
I hope your day is sunshiney even if its dark and wet outside.

  1. I've been reading your other blog for awhile and didn't know you were a painter until I discovered cottage by the sea. Do you have an art blog or website?

This summer, it has been raining and raining and raining where we live. So far, I'm considering this the summer that wasn't. Which I wouldn't mind so much except for wondering what's going to happen to all the livestock up here. It won't stay sunny up here long enough to harvest much feed hay.

I paint with watercolors. I would love for you to do a post about your paintings.

  3. This has been a cool , wet summer so far...good for my best friend , who has no love for the steamy kind ! I'd like to see more sun...having waited all the long winter for its warmth and light clothing . "Happiness is in the heart , not in circumstances"...so I try to enjoy whatever the day brings...so grateful it brings good friends !
