Art and Weather

I thought I would share with you my favorite artist, Edouard Cortes(1882-1969). To the left is the painting "Place de la Republique" He is an impressionist and while some think impressionism is the "easy" way to paint, it is not. Many artists can reproduce real life, but impressionism requires the ability to make something out of brush strokes that is recognizable. You can click on this to see it larger. I love his visions of Paris and his landscapes of Bretagne and Normandie. He , like me, seems to like the twilight and rainy or snowy weather. They are very interesting to paint , certainly. The only problem with any art online is that each computer sees the color and light differently. So what I see when I have the real painting in front of me might be distorted slightly when you see it. Theatre du Vaudeville, to the left here, is one of my favorites. I love the bright light. I have learned a lot about painting light from reproducing some of his techniques in painting. I have learnt a lot from Thomas Kinkade also. Many consider Kinkade to be shlock. I don't. I consider those who think he is to be snobs of the first order ( and usually people who can't paint at all). To me if you love it, then that's all that is needed to make it great art for you. I always have one of Cortes' paintings as my desktop theme. It has never changed in all these years. I find these scenes to be inviting and evocative. Somethings do change, though......... Like Weather and Blogger. While I like Blogger, it has now got a real problem lately with spam in comments from Europe and the orient. So, I have had to institute moderation because of it and might have to do more if it doesn't stop. I guess there isn't much they can do to stop it but I can stop it here if the comment dashboard will work right and that can be another problem but it's free so you can hardly really complain. It is bitterly cold here.Though its certainly been much colder, the damp air makes it feel worse. Up north they may have had some snow again but down here we are now snow free. It rained the other day and washed all of it away. I am very happy about that because I don't have much use for snow anymore. It looks nice for an hour or so and then its a pain to shovel and remove it and keep walkways free from ice.

  1. I think it shameful that a beautiful and talented woman should live alone without anyone to shovel the walk for her. What is this world coming to?

  2. I don't have time for snow either and shoveling is blah.
    They charge an arm and a leg around here to use snow blowers too.
    Better off with no snow I agree.

    I like those paintings. I never heard of him before. Nice introduction to his work.

  3. Hi Annie! I was going to say the same thing about the light in the 2nd painting... it's so warm and lovely. I agree about the prejudice against Kinkade. My Christmas card this year is a Kinkade and will be next year, too. There's another artist- Marty Bell- that paints very similar to him and is very popular here in CA. It's like the prejudice against Andrew Lloyd Weber's music. It seems if it's popular and loved, the critics turn their noses up. Same with certain authors and moviemakers. As the saying goes, they're laughing all the way to the bank. ;)

    Try and stay warm... it's raining here in sunny SoCal. ;) (((Hugz)))

  5. Hi Annie;

    Edouard Cortes and Thomas Kinkade are two favorites of mine. Impressionism is the art I love the most and used to study. Kinkade's warm homey and light art warms me to the bone ;-} I love both of the paintings you shared with us.

    I had the same problem with Blogger comments two weeks ago but since I now have the word verification step set up I haven't had any spam (so far, so good). Have a lovely evening my friend. Hugs

  6. Hi Annie,
    I love those paintings and I am also a Thomas Kincade fan too. Marty Bell is another local painters that I love his work. There is a little boutique down the street from me that sales Marty Bell paitings and Thomas Kinkade. Sorry about the cold weather and the spam problem but as you said you can hardly complain when you get Blogger for free. Have a Happy New Year!
    Hugs, Dru

  7. I agree with Pessi, the less snow the better. Soon I'll be staying for an indefinite amount of time in a place where it snows, and all I have for a car is a little two seat convertible. I doubt I'll have internet, so an anonymous commenter will disappear (as everyone lets out a collective sigh of relief).

    May it bring only the best all the year through.
    I love the paintings and love Thomas Kincaid too. I love the Theatre du Vaudeville painting very much. I could stare at it for hours.
    Glad your not getting snow so you don't have to go out and hurt yourself trying to get rid of it!
