Icy Days Ahead

♪ ♫ Ice boats are a skimmin' , there's dancing tonight.♫ ♪
I guess if you are brave, ice boating is a good idea and maybe when I was a teen it might have seemed like a great idea, as did ice skating in high winds with your coat held open as a sail.
Today I will just stand around all bundled up and watch, thank you very much.
It has been cold but no colder than I remember as a child when there was ice skating all winter long on the ponds and lakes.
One golf course used to flood a deep valley for skating. There was a wooden shack with a pot bellied stove where you could warm up inbetween bouts on the rough ice. No Zamboni machines on wild ice.
My father taught me to skate on a small lake in the park behind our home when I was 3. I got my photo in the paper as the tiniest skater on the lake that day. I look like a snowman all bundled from head to toe . If I had fallen I would never have felt a thing so thick were the clothing layers.
Last night there was a party for a 2 year old family member that was fun. The birthday girl had a great time laughing and singing.
She is the politest little person. She says thank you for everything you do for her.

  3. Hi Annie,
    I too would watch the ice boats all bundled up from a distance. I use to love to ice skate at a local rink but now I would be afraid to fall on my butt lol Hope you have a wonderful week ahead.
    Hugs, Dru

  4. Hi Annie: I love the skating boats. I saw some in Ottawa once. It's a lovely photo! What a beautiful place you live in. We're all the way up to 22 today! LOL

    Have a cozy, lovely day.

  5. Hi Annie! What a beautiful header and pretty photo, too! I've never even heard of ice boating. Ice fishing, I've heard of. :) I've only skated in indoor rinks but they do bring in outdoor ice rinks during the holidays. How they keep them frozen in our 70 and 80 degree weather, I don't know! And of course we "make snow" at our local ski resorts. ;) Glad you had a nice birthday party for your 2 year old relative. (((Hugz)))

  6. Hi Annie;

    LOL! One of my favorite old-time songs.. Your header is beautiful and so is the photo of the ice boats. If it wasn't so cold I'd like to be out there watching too. Years back when I had my own pond/lake on our property we would ice skate every winter. Now I wouldn't be able to stand in them. :)

    Your little family member birthday girl was taught well by her parents. I think it's wonderful hearing little ones say, "thank you".

    Have a lovely day my friend. Hugs
