Planning for Spring Already?

Photo: a section of the big pond and reflections of swamp maples on it's surface.taken from back porch.

The snow is gone, its been rainy and much warmer and I have decided I can live without snow from now on.

My porch is longing for spring to come as the cold ruined it's paint ever more. It will have to be scraped and repainted this spring, not a job I want to do but a necessary one.

It was necessary to cut down the big Yellow Scotch Broom growing on the side of the porch as it knocked over badly in the storm and was in the way. I don't know what possessed me to plant a huge bush like that in a small corner. The fragrance was wonderful as it bloomed. But, I need to have access to that side of the water so a quick decision was made to get it out of the way just after the big snow storm.

Broom is lovely and extremely fragrant while it is in bloom and I have a white one, 2 yellow and one bright orange red. Now, one of the yellows is gone and only 3 plants remain. It is enough though.

I will do something else in that corner I think.

Here is the Scotch Broom on the narrow end of the pond. The one cut down was it's twin. See how it hangs into the water after a big thundery rain storm? They pop up again but they grow up to 8 feet tall and can be a pain if they hang down.

  1. HI Annie,
    that's a beautiful picture of your scotch broom, i love how it hangs over the pond.
    love the pictures below too and your funny comments about how they would never stay this nice looking.
    It was so nice and warm for the last two days and i was able to go outside and paint a couple of small pieces of furniture. Then it started raining and is now colder. So they will have to wait for the second coat. I am so motivated to do things now, but the weather is not cooperating with me. But that's okay. I'll just continue my hibernation in my bear den and think I will go and get on the couch and snuggle up with something warm and watch a movie *yawn* the weather makes me so tired !
    hope you are having a great day!

  3. Hi Annie! We have a white railing like that on our balcony but we used Trex for the flooring and railing so it never needs painting. Sorry you had to lose the pretty Scotch Broom. I can't tell you, tho, how many times I've planted things that were too big for the area. Can you grown Jasmine? That smells great, too.

    We had lightning, thunder and hail at 6 PM. Very unusual and exciting for us. (((Hugz)))

  4. Hi Annie your tree sounds like a beauty sorry it had to go. I have to compliment you on your topper it's gorgeous and it looks so real like. You're an extremely talented artist. I am sick of the winter too. My husband and I are transplants from PA him and me Delaware where I was born, but I grew up in Ohio, New York, France and CA. I think CA has the best weather of any of those places, the sun is always shiny here, except this week. Eeeks! Have a wonderful Friday. Hugs to you! PS I have a new blog.

  6. Hi Annie;

    Wow! Your scotch bloom is lovely! I'm sorry you had to lose one of the plants because of a storm. I am so looking forward to Spring myself as I'm tired of the snow, sllet and ice we've had most of the winter. Here our winter lasts until the end of April.

    Have a lovely day and weekend my friend. Hugs
