Gathering

My family will be gathering here in my little home for Turkey and fellowship this Thursday because we are grateful that this nation , under God, was established and has provided a safe haven for millions over the years.
The local supermarket provides us with free turkeys, a 24 pounder for us this year. Actually two of them since we all get free ones. We will cook up the other one later on.
They offer a few brands, we take the Empire Kosher turkey.
We will be having wonderful candied yams from my Mother's recipe, and stuffing made from sausage, apples , cranberries and pecans. We will have made from scratch pumpkin pie and apple pie just as my Grandmother taught me to make, mashed potatoes, mashed turnips, Green bean casserole and the Famous Anonymous kid's Vera Cruz sauce for dipping with "Scooper tortillas". She began taking cooking lessons from me a few years ago on Wednesdays. Not so much lately but, we did a lot when she did.We need to get back into the swing of things. Each year we also create a Hansel and Gretel House too. Lots of fun to make out of cake and decorations.

The Famous Anonymous Kid can cook!! Man can she cook. She made her Chicken Vera Cruz the other night for me and it was absolutely delicious. I will post the recipe if she allows it! After all she invented the recipe and she is only an elementary school student!
Brag..brag..brag
Then last night was my daughter's birthday and the Anonymous Kid made a chocolate cake with mousse, raspberries, genache.. you name it and it was in it. No one could believe that this child,whose favorite TV show is 'Cake Boss' (which she views selectively via Netflix as they don't allow tv really in the house) made this cake. It was that good.

It should be quite a nice day and I hope the same will be true for your gatherings, large and small.

  1. Hi Annie! Sounds like a wonderful day with great traditions. I enjoy that about Thanksgiving- how we are all pretty much eating and doing the same things on that day. No free turkeys for us this year- the best is a 20 lb Butterball for $10.00 when you spend $25. Well, there may be some better deals but I like Butterballs. AK sounds like she's well on her way to becoming the next Rachel Ray! (((Hugz)))

  3. Hi Annie;

    Sounds like the perfect traditional and blessed Thanksgiving at your house and the F.A.K sounds like a great cook who may become a great chef. Wish I had a piece of her chocolate cake. ;-}

    I miss the family gatherings since my Mom passed away. She was the glue that kept our families together for the holidays. Thanksgiving was her favorite holiday. This year seven of us are going out to dinner. The restaurant serves family style full traditional turkey dinner which makes it nice.

    Have a lovely day ahead my friend. Hugs

  4. Hi Annie, I remember singing that song when I was a kid. I think it was at church, but when I went to school, we still sang tradional songs like Silent Night and Away in the Manger. Sound like AK can cook. My middle son is doing the cooking this year. I will be making a chicken liver stuffing that was my mom's recipe and my hubby loves it. Have a blessed Thanksgiving Day! Hugs
