A song

This song is a Psalm that most people know, 'I will lift my eyes unto the hills from whence comes my help"
I thought you might like to hear it sung in Hebrew.
This is a favorite song for me especially around the holy days and I will transliterate the words for you below and an English translation is at the bottom.
You can always turn off the "ocean" on the right hand side column.

(shir means song, maalot is 'ascents' so a song of ascents they were sung while ascending the temple stairs.)

Shir lama`alot.
Esa einai el heharim
me'ayin yavo ezriy?

Ezriy me'im Hashem,
ose shamaim ve'aretz.

Al yiten lammot raglecha
al yanum shomerecha.

Hineh, lo yanum velo yiyshan shomer yisrael.

Hashem shomerecha Hashemi tsilecha al yad yeminecha.

yomam hashemesh lo yakeka
veyareach balailah.

Hashem yishmarecha mikol ra'ah
yishmor et nafshecha.

Hashem yishmar tsetcha ubo'echa
me'ata ve'ad olam.

Song of Ascents.
I will lift up mine eyes unto the mountains:
from whence shall my help come?

My help cometh from the Lord,
who made heaven and earth.

He will not suffer thy foot to be moved;
He that keepeth thee will not slumber.

Behold,
He that keepeth Israel doth neither slumber nor sleep.

the Lord is thy keeper;
the Lord is thy shade upon thy right hand.

The sun shall not smite thee by day,
nor the moon by night.

the Lord shall keep thee from all evil;
He shall keep thy soul.

the Lord shall guard thy going out and thy coming in,
from this time forth and for ever.

  1. Hi Annie! thanks for sharing. I always enjoy asttending Bar and Bat Mitvahs. I've even participated in one. The rabbi was very good at explaining everything and I enjoy learning about traditions and customs. The after parties aren't bad either! ;) Interesting about autumn vs fall. We're going to be in the triple digits mid-week so the rainy weather will come later! (((Hugz)))
