The End of the Week

just a bit of chit chat:
I feel like I just posted "Its Friday, Friday"  and here it is Friday yet again. I don't like how fast life is going lately. It is too quick. As a child summers were ages long and school  years were even longer. 9 to 3 was an eternity in school.

Do you know the song about school that went, "Hi ho, hi ho, it's off to school we go. From 9 to 3 it's misery . Hi ho, hi ho". It was sung to the song of the seven dwarfs in Snow White.
I can remember learning in one day on the way to school from a friend who learned it from an older brother I believe. You wonder how many generations have sung such things.
As I got older school got earlier for the upper grades. I remember being so sleepy despite bed at 10 PM . Waking up at 7 for school was not easy.  Now studies show that children even through high school need more than 8 hours of sleep. 10 being average for growing kids.
Elementary school children may need as much as 12 hours. Yet, schools continue to keep very early hours.
I suppose bus schedules have something to do with that. In my town there were no buses however . Everyone walked to school as it was a small town.
Anyway, I wish kids could get more sleep. I think they would do better. And more fresh air. I used to love school really but hated being cooped up inside for all those hours of the day.

When I home schooled my daughter I saw to it that she got plenty of fresh air time. By the way, she will graduate summa cum laude from college this January if all things remain the same. She is a consistent straight A student.  I credit four years of Latin for a lot of it. It is a great foundation for learning and growth of the mind.
Ok. Have a spectacular weekend whatever you do. We need a nice restful weekend I think.
Hugs....

  1. Hi Annie,
That song must be an east coast thing. I have never heard it before. All I know is that kids get lots of homework really early now. We didn't have any when we were in grade school just work to take home and practice like spelling etc. Things are a lot different huh? That is great that your daughter was a straight A student my son wasn't he wanted to get out and work so bad that he didn't apply himself. For him it all worked out but for many it does not. Hope you have a great weekend. Hugs, Dru

  3. Dru must not have seen Snow White and the Seven Dwarves who sing, "Hi Ho Hi Ho, it's off to work we go." That should be her song! And then there's the bumper sticker that reads, "I owe, I owe, it's off to work I go!" :) Congrats to your daughter on her upcoming honors graduation! Is this the daughter with children? If so, it's an accomplishment to go back to school having a family to take care of, too! Enjoy the weekend! (((Hugz)))

I did catch Snow White as a kid but I never heard the song about school that you quoted :) Just wanted to clear that up! Hope you had a wonderful weekend.
