"Peekers"

rainy day on the bay
Is there ever a good reason to peek out your blinds?

Sometimes you just like to look outside. It's natural, it's normal.
But then we run the risk of being thought of as nosy even though you are only looking at the trees, or the sky!
But some people peek. Really peek.
Now, they think no one can see them.
But, you see that slight movement of the blinds, the fingers poking through, and then those eyes.
And at night! Forget about it. The light behind them highlights that ominous profile and its just downright creepy sometimes.
I noticed it most when I used to get out to walk around town.
You head down the streets and invariably someone will peek.
Or if you make a U-turn on a side street with houses or do a turn in their drive way, peeking will ensue!

So okay, what do you do now?
Do you wave? Try to be friendly
If you are in a car do you roll down the window and call out a hearty "Hi, how are ya?"
Or do you ignore it and pass by and wonder.. what was that about???
I can understand the U-turn. They are wondering if someone is finally coming to visit after all these years.
Or if its that pesky bill collector again.
I think you have to be very good at it not to be seen though. And, well, the peekers I have seen just don't cut the mustard truth be told.
I wonder just what people do think of peeking.
Is it socially correct, incorrect.
Maybe they are fugitives who are in that FBI program where you gain a new identity and they are in constant fear of discovery.
If that is the case I think the peeking is a dead giveaway that something isn't kosher there.
Or they are afraid it's the in-laws again.
Maybe its just a way to look, without looking nosy?
But then maybe just a good old fashioned standing dead center in the window and staring out is the best option.
The reason I ask is that there are bushes in front of  some windows in front of my house and birds congregate there and well, I peek.
The bush is very close to the window and they sit there chirping and singing and I can get a close look if I *peek*.
The problem is that it occurred to me that my neighbors might apply all those other reasons to me!!!!
You can see the dilemma.
OK, so maybe they will think I am a fugitive in the FBI program, who owes money to creditors, is anti social and just happens to be nosy about birds.
Well, there has to be a better way.
I just wish I knew what it was.

  2. Dear one ... you must be feeling better. What an enlightening post, interesting and funny to boot. That's not you behind the blinds is it? It must be your neighbor watching you on your walk. I love it.

As you used to say ... I leave you with a smile.

    Blessings my friend.

  3. Hi Annie,
Peaking is just human nature. Try walking down a street and not looking into an open window, you can't :)) Or walking thru a hospital and not looking into an open room as much as you try not too! I am a good peaker when I look out my upstairs windows. Hope you have a wonderful Wednesday. Hugs, Dru

  4. I love this post Annie and the peeking graphic is great! I have an advantage where peeking only results in the trees or whatever is flying or crawling sees me peeking. ;-} So I guess there is one plus living in the boondocks. Thank you for brightening up my day dear friend. Hugs

  5. Peek away my friend. It is your home, you are peeking out and looking outside. You are not looking in someones window.xo

  6. I think it would make me feel safe if it were in my own neighborhood. They could spot strangers or trouble. Of course, they could just be nosy.

  7. Hi Annie, I peek out my window just to see what is going on in the world. Call it nosy or courious but I love to peek. Sometimes I don't care at all and other times I want to know what is happening outside my window. I don't think there is a movie out there without a window scene, at least one I can think of. I had to laugh at this cute post. I am so sorry about your pain, I guess we're kindred spirits in that area and it's downright exhausting at times. Have a great Thursday.

  8. You are funny, Annie! You sure thought of a lot of scenarios for peeking! :) We are at the end of a cul de sac with no houses across the street. I sit on the upper floor at my computer and I have blinds in the window next to me. They are usually always open so I can see the cars that make a u-turn... only one house past us. When it gets dark and I have my overhead light on, I feel like I'm in a fish bowl and any walkers (lots of people walk their dogs up here) or cars can see me in my window so I often will close them when I see a car coming... so maybe they think I'm in the witness protection program or.... or.... :D
