Gone on Before

It is still Thursday but I was thinking that it has been one year since we lost Elizabeth.
I had a habit of visiting her site from time to time but, now the graphics are down. Site remains but the graphics are just missing.
I burst into tears. It was final, so awfully final.
Well, Elizabeth, you are remembered as are so many other bloggers who have gone on before us.
For all those who have gone ahead of us:

I am standing by the seashore.
A ship at my side spreads her white sails to the morning breeze
and starts for the blue ocean.
She is an object of beauty and strength,
and I stand and watch
until at last she hangs like a speck of white cloud
just where the sun and sky come down to mingle with each other.

Then someone at my side says, ‘There she goes!
Gone where? Gone from my sight – that is all.

She is just as large in mast and hull and spar
as she was when she left my side
and just as able to bear her load of living freight
to the places of destination.
Her diminished size is in me, not in her.

And just at the moment when someone at my side says,
‘There she goes! ‘ ,
there are other eyes watching her coming,
and other voices ready to take up the glad shout :
‘Here she comes!’

  1. Hi Annie! Elizabeth and I (and Sadie) as well as a few others were October birthdays so I thought of her on the 3rd and checked her FB page. There was a small update there by a friend from her Beardie's group. It was more about Joel and Buddy but I'll check my email because I sent the update to a few of her friends and post it here for you.

  2. Here it is:

I recently had communication with Joel, Elizabeth's husband. I know many of you are wondering how he and Buddy are doing after losing Elizabeth last October. Joel has moved around the corner from the house they lived in. It is a smaller and more appropriate space for Joel and Buddy. There have been some hard times with Buddy as the hurricane season hit them hard. In fact, they were one block from the mandatory evacuation zone so they were able to stay and weather the storm. He sent a picture of them huddled together in the bathtroom shower! Buddy was pretty much a basketcase, but Joel stuck with him and helped him through it all.

The move has been a long one since it has been a few boxes at a time. Buddy doesn't much like the boxes! Sooo, they are kind of back to square one in learning to get along in the world. Joel has not been traveling as much so he is devoting alot of time to Buddy and getting him comfortable again. All of that takes time. The groomer where Buddy goes when Joel is traveling is still a safe place for Buddy so that's a good thing.

Sometimes there are potholes in the road before the smooth highway comes along and that's kind of where they are right now. I think Joel and Buddy could use some white light at this point in their lives so if you have time send a few beams their way. The good thing is that they are safe and have each other. Elizabeth would be proud of them together.

    1. Thank you so much for the update on Elizabeth, Darylynn. Funny, but I was thinking about her yesterday too.

  3. What a beautiful tribute to our friend, Annie. It brought back memories of days we used to chat in email and our websites about our graphics and of both her Beardie's. The first pet she had here in Westchester County, NY before moving south. Wonderful memories of a lovely friend. Thanks for sharing. Have a lovely weekend my friend. Hugs

  4. Hi Annie! I agree with Toni, what a beautiful tribute. I found a comment that Elizabeth left in an old email just a few months before she passed. I couldn't delete it. It's hard to believe she's been gone for a year. I hope you have a great, weekend and a beautiful Friday. Hugs!
