The Rainy Day...
Longfellow

We hear phrases and sayings that are familiar to us all the time, but many times have no idea where they come from.
 Here is one you may know.

The day is cold, and dark, and dreary;
It rains, and the wind is never weary;
The vine still clings to the mouldering wall,
But at every gust the dead leaves fall,
And the day is dark and dreary.

My life is cold, and dark, and dreary;
It rains, and the wind is never weary;
My thoughts still cling to the mouldering Past,
But the hopes of youth fall thick in the blast,
And the days are dark and dreary.

Be still, sad heart! and cease repining;
Behind the clouds is the sun still shining;
Thy fate is the common fate of all,
Into each life some rain must fall,
Some days must be dark and dreary.
~Henry Wadsworth Longfellow~

  1. I remember reading Longfellow as a student and was not impressed. Now, as an adult, he is so good! Have a great evening.

  2. Hi Annie, it rained at my place to and it was not expected but very much welcomed! We have had lots of windy days too which I do not like because it messes up my sinuses. Did you do the water color picture of the clouds and roses? I am trying watercolors in my Bible journal. I hope you are doing well. Hugs
