Autumn Begins

A
utumn begins tomorrow .
In Seaside Park it begins Thursday, September 22, 2016 at 10:21 AM EDT.     How is that for precision!
We have weathered devastation from the Perfect Storm in '91 to Sandy and hundreds of other bad storms and now just the other day a terrorist attack during a police gathering. No one was injured at all, thank goodness but we pray for those who wish us harm to be frustrated and brought to an end quickly.

Autumn and fall are different things, did you know that? Autumn is the entire season but 'fall' is when leaves begin to fall from the trees in earnest. Just a bit of useless trivia there.
You can click on most photos to enlarge them.
New Jersey is lovely in the autumn I think.
Here is a photo of Princeton University in the fall.
My twins were born when I was living in Princeton (a boy and a girl). They were my first 'baby'.
Only my twin son is still living along with his younger siblings (I've raised 5 kids..2 boys, 3 girls) as my bonnie wee girl passed away.
My son was about 10 minutes older than his sister, a pretty strawberry blonde.

The Little

The Little (in this photo left) looks a good deal like her actually and according to family is also my spitting image. (Where did that saying come from!)
Ahh, found it:
This idiom(spitting image) alludes to the earlier use of the noun spit for “likeness,” in turn probably derived from an old proverb, “as like as one as if he had been spit out of his mouth” (c. 1400). The current idiom dates from about 1900.

I had another set of twins but only one of them lived to be born, sadly.

We used to watch the crews rowing on the river in those happy golden days.
I spent happy times in Princeton. Very happy times.
Our Scottish Terrier, Sandy, went with us everywhere.  What a character he was.
His best friend, a Corgi named Scott, used to paw at the front door every morning to come play.
One day Scott's owner came to the door asking if we had seen him.  He was amazed to hear that Scott came daily to play with Sandy.  They were best pals for all the time we lived in Princeton.

Pumpkins make their way onto the scene in autumn.
This photo from the NJ state site is typical of their abundance.
We are the garden state after all!

This is pretty Milford one of my favorite places in NJ along the Delaware River.
If you cross that bridge you are in Pennsylvania.
There is a cute place there to buy a cup of coffee or a milkshake.  Love this little place on the river.

This photo is kind of iconic. It is in Boonton, NJ and it is used for calendars and ads all the time.
Lovely in red.

Duke Gardens below....
Gorgeous stuff.
New Jersey is mostly forest and woodland.
I think most do not realize that as they land at Newark Airport and think that small industrial corner is what NJ is all about.
Or they watch Jersey Shore...a figment of Hollywood's mind... and imagined this was what it is like.
Nothing of the sort.

The Palisades along the Hudson River

The palisades along the Hudson in North Jersey are beautiful this time of year.

Leaves are just now beginning to turn. The Green Ash tree in the garden is one of the first to go.  The willows by the water are already pretty much gone and the swamp maples and scrub oaks are turning red.
The  piney woods are mostly cedar, holly and pine and they stay green all year.

What's it like in your neck of the woods?

    3. lol. The Famous Anonymous Kid refers to Princeton as a 'trade school'. I think its a line from a movie or something but makes me laugh every time.

  4. Oh how breathtakingly beautiful...not quite fall here in western NY yet, Annie. The mornings are crisp, the days are warm...I have though, noticed little changes when I am on campus and look at the hills/mountains. I do believe this all will change this coming next week--as temps will be in the 60's. I love this time of the year.

Thank you for the smiles...and loveeeeeeeeeeeee your blog header.

  5. Good morning Annie, you and I have a lot in common with twins and the loss of one. I know how beautiful NJ is in many places. Your photos are gorgeous. I spent a lot of time in many parts of Jersey in the Autumn. Thanks for the trivia regarding Autumn and Fall. :) Have a day of blessings dear Annie.

  6. Good evening Annie. I am in Texarkana AR. I have received your blog on my Yahoo account. I do not have Google account. Nevertheless, I am enjoying all that you and your friends post. God is so wonderful in connections with others. I love to travel, but stopped to care for Mother until she passed which will be 3 years in a few more days. Now to prove that I am not a robot. LOL I don't fit into any of the categories listed, so I am anonymous.
