Tuesday Four

I'm joining with Toni for her Tuesday Four Meme.

1. Favorite Holiday Movie/s?
I love the story of A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens.
It is not about Christmas. It is about being a loving part of the human race and therefore is an
important story. Dickens uses Christmas as a backdrop for the story but it could be any holiday or any time at all.

I also enjoy the movie  "Meet Me In St Louis" which is a fun classic movie that takes you through the four seasons .  It is a lot of fun to watch.
Years ago I loved seeing The Ten Commandments with Charleton Heston as Moses during the passover/easter season though it is full of Hollywood nonsense.

 2. Holiday Parades or Football?
I like the sound of football games in the background. I don't watch but my mother did and it reminds me of her to hear it.
My hometown had a little Memorial Day parade every year that was fun to go watch.
Most of the holidays I celebrate are religious and the TV stays off.

 3. Fan of old Holiday classics or new movies?
I like old movies a lot. There was a warmth to them you don't get much in today's movies and I seriously dislike the profanity and moral decay in most movies and TV shows today.
I did see Jim Carey's A Christmas Carol in 3D however and it was such a lot of fun! Things seemed to pop off the screen into the audience. It was amazing.
And, again, Dickens's story is a valuable lesson not about Christmas but about being a loving part of the human race. A line from it that symbolizes the entire book is  from a scene where Scrooge, whose every thought is for himself and his money decries helping the poor and needy . He demands they go to work houses and poor houses. He consigns them to an awful fate rather than part with his money or attempt to summon up any sort of feeling for his fellow man.
Scrooge's lonely and loveless upbringing work on him for the worst rather than spurring him on to be a finer sort of person.
He says that if the poor are to die, let them die and decrease the surplus population!
How familiar is that in this day of depopulation creepers like Prince Philip of Britain who said his fondest desire was to be reincarnated as a virus and come back and kill off the majority of what he also seems to think of as a surplus population.
"Man," said the Ghost, "if man you be in heart, not adamant, forbear that wicked cant until you have discovered What the surplus is, and Where it is. Will you decide what men shall live, what men shall die? It may be, that in the sight of Heaven, you are more worthless and less fit to live than millions like this poor man's child. Oh God! to hear the Insect on the leaf pronouncing on the too much life among his hungry brothers in the dust!"
This book has far more to say and teach than mere holiday fuzzy warmies.  It strikes deep into the heart of stupid social and political mores that are prevalent in his day and in our own as well.
Most of Dickens' works say much on social and political stupidity.

 4. Favorite Holiday memory?

The hustle and bustle of preparing  for holidays  makes for great memories.
There is a satisfaction in getting things done  on time that makes me happy and gives me a sense of
accomplishment.
Seeing the table set in advance of a celebration, knowing the food is all ready to go is a good feeling.
And then family and friends together around the table year after year sharing love and joy of being together,

  2. A Christmas Carol is my most favorite story and movies. I own two versions, George C. Scott's which is most like the Dicken's book and Jim Carey's which I didn't think I would like but I do. LOL! I also own "Meet Me In St Louis" and watch it every few months. Judy Garland's "The Trolley Song" is one of my favorite songs in the movie. Enjoy reading your holiday favorites Annie. Have a blessed evening and day ahead my friend.
