It's Friday afternoon and another week without rain and the reservoirs are drying up. I will now resort to a rain dance.
Skies are blue, sun is shining, temperatures in the low 50's during the day. Very pretty but very unwelcome.
Well, there is Saturday 9 to help lighten the mood and so I will give it a shot.
Saturday 9: My Girl (1965)
Unfamiliar with this week's song? Hear it here.
1) Temptations' lead singer David Ruffin sings that he has sunshine on a cloudy day. How does the sky look where you are today?
Unfortunately it is blue and sunny outside. It is 53F. We desperately need rain.
2) He maintains that even when it's cold outside, to him it feels like the month of May. What's your favorite month?
I have learned to like all of them. Certain ones have special days and are special because of that but I really have begun to love all the months. I saw that longing for a different season, a different day, a different month is just wishing your life away and is the wrong way to behave. We must find the joy in every season, every month, every day or we are wasting the time given to us.
3) In addition to their vocals, The Temptations were known for their stylish suits and choreography. Are you a better dancer or dresser?
Dancer for sure. I dress neatly but I am not a clothes horse or fashionista by any means.
4) Today, nearly 60 years since it's release, "My Girl" is one of the most popular karaoke songs. Do you know the words?
Yes, I think I do. I can sing along if that's what you mean.
5) The Temptations delighted Mets fans when they performed "My Girl" live at Citi Field during the playoffs last month. The World Series is now over and the 2024 season is on the books. How did your baseball team do?
I have liked the Dodgers since they were in Brooklyn. Of course I do not forgive them for leaving /Brooklyn but it is nice to see them win a world series even if they are guilty of stupidity.
6) "My Girl" was written by Ronald White and Smokey Robinson. Smokey grew up with Aretha Franklin, and he's said they played together in the sandbox. When you were little, which playground activity was your favorite: sandbox, jungle gym, swings or slide?
I like the swings.
7) In 1965, when "My Girl" topped the charts, Winston Churchill died. One of his favorite sayings was, "I am always ready to learn but I do not always like to be taught." What's something you learned recently?
That I hate my coffee press. It is such a waste of time and the coffee, contrary to what everyone says is really not good at all. I learned that I need to go back to using a percolator or just a plain old Mr. Coffee.
I am leaning toward a Presto Percolator though.
8) British-born comedian Stan Laurel also died in 1965. He's been cited as an influence on Jerry Lewis, Dick Van Dyke and Matt LeBlanc. Without looking it up, do you know who Stan Laurel's famous partner was?
Yes, Oliver Hardy
9) Random question: Imagine we Sat 9-ers are taking you to a restaurant for your birthday. Do you find servers who sing "Happy Birthday" cute or annoying?
Cute. If they supply a cake it's downright great!
Great answers. I love it when restaurant servers sing Happy Birthday and bring cake or ice cream or anything yummy! I think it's a nice thing to do. I remember the song My Girl and also someone sang it as My Guy. 1965....let's see, I was 15, a sophomore in high school. That sure seems like a LONG time ago, in a land far away. LOL. Have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteGreat answers, Annie! I loved that song and still do. I've learned as I've gotten older that every day and season is special and should be treasured. May we give thanks for every moment given to us by God. Blessings!
