November Stealing

Hello November!
After a brief couple of warm days we are back to the chilly days of Autumn.
Halloween brought  a few dozen kids to the door for cookies this year.  I usually hand out the small lunch size bags of chips, cheese-its, Doritos, etc.   This year I decided to go with the luncheon sized packets of Teddy Grahams, Oreos, etc.

Here is this week's Sunday Stealing.
Local events, parades or festivals – either in your hometown or state.
There is a big Halloween parade in the county seat.  Football games on Thanksgiving and the Macy's parade in New York City, the big pre-game bon fire at the football field the night before the big rival football game.

Life update – what’s happened recently, moving house, family wedding, vacation, new pet, visited with a friend, and so on.
Just family things like Taco Thursday this past week. Handing out little packages of cookies to kids. My friend is sick so we just text and a couple conversations on the phone to explain some medications for her.

Do you have any family traditions this month?  The celebration of Thanksgiving is our tradition.  The 25th is my birthday and the 22nd is my youngest daughter's birthday.    We begin the great tradition of Hallmark movies this month and we watch A Christmas Carol with George C Scott, The Bishop's Wife with Loretta Young and Cary Grant and a few other holiday season movies.

The holidays are about two months away,
Do you begin shopping or creating now or wait until December?  Christmas and Chanukah are at the same time this year.. December 25th is also 25 Kislev the day the light was rekindled in the temple... the Feast of dedication.   Preparations begin mid November

What is your favorite November memory?   It is always Thanksgiving. One year was especially nice since I spent the night before at the big bonfire and Thanksgiving morning at the football game.

Now that the weather is getting cooler do you prefer? Staying indoors or going outdoors? What do you do?    I enjoy being outdoors at a firepit or walking around(if you can call what I do walking) at Smithville or Viking Village.  Going to the big winery for the day and evening.

 Describe your favorite local restaurant.
It has a beautiful rose garden, salt water fish tanks, pizza and lovely Italian and American food.    The owner, known to everyone in town was struck and killed in a hit and run. He owned the restaurant for nearly 60 years. He passed just the other morning.

Thanksgiving or Friendsgiving?  Thanksgiving.  It has to do with thanking God after all.

If you could take any class, what would you select?  Perhaps a nice art class.

To celebrate November would you rather enjoy pumpkin pie or sweet potato?
Pumpkin pie is better than sweet potato pie in my opinion. But I do like candied yams.

How do you handle setbacks and failures?
I chalk them up and move on.  Most failures for me  are online and have involved people misunderstanding what, why, motives, etc.    I  can be quite blunt.(which I am working on)   I used to try to explain but, I have learned that people don't care about explanations for the most part.

If everything in your house had to be one color, which color would you choose?  Again, I am a big fan or doing a Kobayashi Maru and changing the rules.  (The phrase "Kobayashi Maru" has entered the popular lexicon as a reference to a no-win scenario.)  So I would not use only one color.

Who or what would you haunt if you were a ghost,  Ex friends.

Have you ever worn clothing with the labels still attached?  No except for the labels inside.

What's something weird that you recommend everyone try at least once?   Nothing weird and nothing normal either.  I am drawing a blank.

  1. My wife is bringing a package of Golden Oreos to her book group today because the woman she's driving, a lovely woman of 95, had never had them.

  2. Aww...I am so sorry about the restaurant owner who got hit and passed away, how sad. You are a treasure, Annie, truly. smiles (p.s. did you move?)

  3. Thanks Linda, as are you dear friend. No I didn't move. I didn't have plans to move either. Are you thinking of someone else maybe?

  4. That is very sad about the restaurant owner. Simply terrible. I have never had a trick or treater at my house. I think giving cookies sounds like a wonderful idea.

  5. I'm going to echo the sentiments of so many here, Annie, about the hit and run death of your local restaurant owner. Just tragic! Setbacks or failures? Chalk those up to experience and move forward. Blessings!

  6. That's awful about the restaurant owner. We had a very popular owner/chef in our area that died in a wreck on very icy roads. So sad, but his wife kept the restaurant going until just this year. Wineries are very nice to visit this time of year.

  7. How very sad about the restaurant owner. What a tragedy for his family and his business too. So very sad. I enjoyed your answers to all of the above questions. We are hoping for some cooler weather here soon. We enjoyed a nice cool time in the mountains last week, but came home sick and also to warm muggy weather again. It should be changing soon, we hope. I've got to start thinking about the holidays. Still not sure what we are doing for Thanksgiving, if it will be here or somewhere else. Sometimes I'd like to go somewhere else so I don't have to clean house and do so much work! LOL. We shall see what develops. You don't need an art class! You should be teaching one! I wish I lived close enough so you could teach me to paint! I've always wanted to learn, but just can't seem to settle down and do it. I wouldn't even know where to begin. Have you gotten the work started yet on your kitchen? I've been out of touch lately and haven't kept up well, but I thought you were having the work done that you've mentioned before. I hope it will be done for Thanksgiving! That would be nice! Keep us posted. Take care and have a blessed November!

    1. Thanks for the compliment but I am not a great artist at all. The kitchen has been my fault as I couldn't decide on counters, was shocked at the price of sinks today.. but, I am now pretty sure what I want. and will order the counter tops this week from Home Depot. They are a dark stained butcher block with natural edges. I think I will paint the cabinets black with gold knobs. Right now they are natural cherry wood but, they turn that awful orangey color with age. I also need a new sink base.. the $$ piles up.

  9. Linda's question may have come from the "Life Update" section , that mentioned "moving house..." The weather has been so changeable here...warm one day and chilly the next ...the poor body doesn't know quite how to cope ! Good news about the progress on the kitchen plans ! Hope all turns out as you wish !
Love the wallpaper (?) on this page...so pretty ! Stay safe and well , my friend !
