My Blue Heaven

Maybe My Blue Heaven should be a  name for a house paint color.  It would be a lovely color for a house.
Some people give their homes or property a name.  I think it's a wonderful idea.  It can conjure up all kinds of moods and feelings about the place you call home and give others a fair idea of who and what you are,  don't you think?    I do.   I think I have an idea now for questions for Tuesday 4 this week.

Saturday 9: My Blue Heaven (1955)

What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love memes, however, and here is today's meme!

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here in it's original form by Gene Austin from the early 1920's. It's a quiet version that conjures up the romance of a warm, loving home.  " My Blue Heaven"
Though I like Doris Day a lot,   I didn't care for the this rendition but there are quite a lot of other renditions including Leon Redbone's which are just great and even Marlene Dietrich!  Frank Sinatra's was the best I thought.

1) The music for "My Blue Heaven" was written by Walter Donaldson. Mr. Donaldson was a gifted piano player who used his talent to entertain the troops on leave during WWI. What's something you're naturally good at?
I suppose there are a few things but the very first thing I was naturally good at was double dutch jump rope.

2) The lyrics were written by George Whiting. He began his career on stage as a song-and-dance man. While touring, he met and fell in love with another singer on the bill. They went on to marry and have three daughters. Have you ever engaged in a workplace romance?
No, there have been no workplace romances for me.

3) In this song, Doris Day sings about a cozy home. Look around the room you're in. What makes it cozy?
What makes it cozy? The book shelves, the comfortable chairs, the family photos, the carpet, plants, the pictures on the wall, the window view.  I turned the smallest bedroom into my office. I broke down the wall between the living room and the bedroom and installed floor to ceiling double sided bookcases instead of the wall.  The room isn't very large but, I think the small area also lends itself to being cozy.

4) For four consecutive years, Doris was the most popular film actress in the world, with fans flocking to theaters to see her. Is there an actor or actress whose presence in a movie or TV show makes you say to yourself, "I want to see that?"
Bette Davis, Sally Field, Sandra Bullock, Elizabeth Shue and of course Doris Day too.

5) For all her film and music success, she found herself broke in the late 1960s. Her husband had mismanaged her fortune, something she didn't discover until after his sudden death. Do you know how much is in your checking account right now? (We're not asking the amount; just whether you know.)
Yes, I do know.

6) Away from performing, Doris' passion was animal welfare. At one point she shared her home with more than a dozen dogs and went on to establish the Doris Day Animal Foundation. Do any pets share your home?
I have fish but I no longer have a cat or dog as I did before.

There are a lot of frogs of all sizes too but they are independent and not "pets".  They all do their own thing. They will come to greet me when I am outside and the fish expect their food each day  except in winter when they hibernate, but they also hunt their own food. You should see them jump up to catch a flying bug!

7) In 1955, when this song was a hit, cars came with AM radios but they were pretty unsophisticated by today's standards. The car needed to be on and "warmed up" a bit before the signal was picked up and that signal could easily be lost if you were bouncing over rough terrain. Today most new cars come with Bluetooth so you can enjoy infotainment through your phone. Do you listen to music, podcasts, audiobooks, etc., as you drive?

The signals here are non-existent even with their sophistication.  The section of NJ I live in is quite unique for weather and reception.  Without cable you receive nothing even while being quite close as the crow flies to NYC and Philadelphia.   Even with the finst radio I can access only 1 radio station here.
No radio or noise when I drive.

8) Also in 1955, the first McDonald's opened. Does your community have a McDonald's?
Yes, there is.  We have more Mom and Pop places though.

9) Random question: How long have you known your newest friend?
Possibly as long as 10 years now I thi

  1. Oh, Sally Field! I forgot about her. She's generally great in everything she does. I think your artwork is wonderful, what I see on your blog.

  2. I like how you added bookcases. I have one in my bedroom. There is a bookcase in the other guestrooms, but not many books in them. One has a bunch of Legos! I remember when you had a cat. Double Dutch is not easy. We used to watch the kids do that and they had us try and they laughed!
