Autumn Nights

My weather ap tells me the temperature in the middle of the night nere is 45°F
My Google home assistent says 50. Who knows .. but feels more like 40.
Autumn weather has really arrived and trees are turning beautiful colors now.

Autumn evenings were always special when I was a kid.
The day ended early and the family gathered in the living room where my mother and grandmother watched a little TV and my father sat on the sofa reading and smoking his pipe.  My parents enjoyed a cup of coffee and sometimes a snack.

1. Does your life go along in the same way all year or do  things change with the seaons?
Things in my life change with the seasons and I like that a lot.
I like to take advantage of the seasons.
2. Do you have a favorite meal on the chilly night?
I really enjoy Chili on a cold evening.
3.  Do you have a snack while you watch TV or read?
Sometimes.   I like to make popcorn and I like to chop up celery and carrots and eat them as a snack too.
4. Do you have a fireplace in your home?
No.  We used to heat the house with a coal stove but it roasted us out!  Coal heat if very strong.  The house had electric heat and it was way too expensive. Then we put in gas hot water heat and that is very nice indeed.     I miss the days of the old coal furnaces.  I remember my Dad shoveling in the coal from the bin in the cellar.

  1. We have all electric and it's not too bad. We only pay like $135 a month and we pretty much run the ac year around. ANYWAYS, great meme, Annie. smiles

  2. I love that the evenings are getting cooler. No ambiance regarding keeping warm - just a heater but it does the job. I'll join up here later today.

  3. Nothing like homemade chili on a cold night, Annie. We have gas heat here at the house; lots cheaper than electric! Blessings!

  4. We enjoy gas heat here, but so far, we haven't had to turn it on yet.

  6. I enjoyed your post. Chili is sounding better and better these days. We don't have a real fireplace, but we have that little electric one that is really nice because you can just turn on the "flame" without the heat and enjoy the ambience if you don't need the heat portion. We do heat with electric here in Florida. We have a heat pump for both AC/heat. That works find for our mild winters and hot summers. I love autumn nights. Little by little it is getting a little bit cooler here...not quite as humid, at least. Thanks, Annie.

  7. I've never known anyone with a coal stove but when I was growing up a lot of families had what we called "pot bellied stoves" and those really heat a house nicely and create nice ambient light also. I think I'd be too afraid to use one now as they used to get super hot and orange from the fire inside. I like popcorn sometimes but mostly in the winter when watching movies. I hadn't any for a long time but recently we've had it a few times and now we're out of it. Something to add to my list of things to replenish. Have a lovely week ahead. x

    1. Ours was round like a pot belly but with a wider top and without the "waist"line that a pot belly has.

  8. I enjoyed your answers. We grew up with a wood stove and it made our house VERY warm.
