Starry NIghts

Welcome  Friends to another Tuesday 4 started by Toni Taddeo and kept up in honor and memory of her.
Let's talk about starry nights....

The Tatty Teddy story is in the previous post here.

1.  Have you ever seen the mikly way or been to one of the designated black out areas where no light can obscure the starry night?
Yes, we used to see the Milky Way a lot by the ocean before so many lights obscured it.  You can still see it in the mountains and in the deep dark areas at times.

2.  "The heavens declare the glory of God and the  firmament shows his handiwork."
Are you in awe of the starry skies. Do they inspire faith for you>
Yes.  The heavens do indeed declare the existence of God and his mighty power.  The fact that creation is so beautiful to us shows his love.

3.   Have you ever wished upon a star or seen a meteorite fall to earth?
I have seen many "falling stars" as we used to call them and as a   child I recall the poem.. "star light, star bright, first star I see tonight, I wish I may, I wish I might have the wish I wish tonight".
The Leonid meteor showers are most visible  November  16-17. You can see as many as 15 meteors per hour.

4. Do you think money is wasted on the space program that might be better used on earth?
Yes.    Let us instead solve the problems of earth : of encroaching deserts,  pollution of oceans, rivers and lakes. Let us stop our abuse of this planet before we go abuse space as well.  Let us learn to live in harmony with one another and nature before we even think to go elsewhere.
Let us fix the rain forests and revert them back to the farmland they once were thousands of years ago so that people can have the food they need.
The Amazon rain forest was  once huge farms raising  all manner of fruits and vegetables and nut trees. Well manicured and fruitful for millions  unti around 500 years before the Spaniard arrived and a huge catastrophe, we don't know what, destroyed the land and it became over grown with weeds, strangling vines and an over load of dangerous animals.
"And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth." (Genesis 1:26)
and mankind was to "dress and keep" the earth or in other words, garden it.. grow it, improve it not let it go to waste.

  1. I have seen the Milky Way when we were in the mountains several years ago. Just wow! I remember a time when I went to a local planetarium with students for a field trip; the young man sitting next to me pointed to the Milky Way and the other stars and asked if it was fake. I had to explain to him about the effects of light pollution. Have a wonderful day, Annie!

  2. When I look into the heavens I am amazed at the magnificence and awesomeness of God's marvelous creation. We cannot even begin to imagine the vastness of the universe...all created for us to enjoy. I don't have a problem with them exploring outer space, but yes, we do need to take care of our planet as well. We should be able to do both if the money was properly budgeted and handled. Good post. I will try to finish mine later. I'm running behind this week.

  4. I've heard of the Leonid meteor shower but I didn't check to see if I could see it. I have so many lights and buildings around me that it's difficult to see much.
