(update as of 10PM it is under control. 500 firefighters are here battling this thing. 50 or more businesses gone now.)
Now this.. a huge fire and 80% of the brand new boardwalk and businesses are gone again.
It is a 10 alarm fire. How will we cope with this. This is devastating in view of what we went through last fall. These are our friends and neighbors homes and businesses.
Winds are too high off the ocean and its spreading badly.
They are ripping up the newly built boardwalk to try and stop it ahead of the fire.
My town's beach is in this area and the fire can be seen across the bay.
We wait and hope but, even apartments seen to be in flames now.
As of 5:00 firemen were pulled back as things were just too intense. It is totally out of control now.
All of this is brand new since Sandy last fall. All of it. Blocks and blocks long.
They have ripped up boardwalk and dug a huge trench to try and stop this thing.
We were due for storms but they are not here yet as of 10PM.
Oh God, please don't let this be arson. Please.

Annie, I came here after seeing the news. I am so sad for your community. I can't believe how devastating it is. I sure hope it is not arson either. Praying that no one has been hurt. Sending big hugs!

ReplyDeleteHi Annie! Of course I thought of you right away when I saw the news... how awful to happen again just when people were getting back on their feet! So sad! It's always so eerie to see a fire at night...we have our share of that seeing brush fires but all the more sad when you know businesses and homes are going up in smoke!
