Home Sweet Home

Hello. I am sick with a little cold. Nothing huge but tiring.

Home Sweet Home

a 1939 Living Room
Welcome once again to Toni Taddeo's Tuesday 4
where we hope you will stretch your mind, your imagination and your friendships online by sharing a bit of yourself with others.       This week the subject is Your Home .

All photos can be clicked to make full sized.

1. What kind of home do you have and does it need repair or improvements this year?

I have a 1070sq foot 1940's ranch style house in a neighborhood by the bay.  I am really loving the long louvers on the window in the photo above and would love it in my own home. The kitchen needs a new counter top, new sink(rust) and new stove. Floors need replacing as do ceilings from hurricane water damage.  Roof has been replaced completely now.. (palest gray) so it is water tight now! No more leaks.  What a blessing.  Also need a new water heater.

In looking at the living room above, I am loving the long louvre shutters and would like that in my home.

2.
How do you accessorize your home inside and out?    Plants, art, books, wall hangings, maybe music in the background?

Besides a huge floor to ceiling, wall to wall bookcase filled with books, I have flowers outside in summer.  I have a few large Wisterias that are just so pretty and some rather huge Beach Rose(Rugosa) bushes too. I have a flower box on the front porch and used to have them under my windows.  I would like to have then replaced. My shutters are gone also and I'd like to replace them and repaint the house.    I photoshopped on the porch to see how it would look. I like it! The pond is my small front pond. The big pond is out back.

3. What objects reside on your coffee table? Night stand? Side tables? Kitchen/Dining table?    My coffee table right now is a huge leather hassock that opens up and holds my quilts and blankets.  What resides on top varies through the seasons.     My night stands have what is shown in a photo on one and the other holds a small pretty plant and some hand cream.   A living room side table has a Tiffany lamp and a small plant.

I painted the bottom of this china cabinet a mat black. It looks great and the big TV is hung over it now.

4.  Do you like your kitchen organized and with counters cleared off or do you prefer to have  the things you use often out on counters?     Do you mind  what some might see as clutter or do you hate having to dig out tools and appliances  when it comes time to use them? and prefer to have them within easy reach?
My kitchen

I keep things on the counter because I have a small kitchen. Not as small as I've had in the past but, small.  I keep out the kettle, a toaster/oven/convection (as my range oven is broken. top burners work but inside oven does not.)  I have a few glass canisters out as well.  I don't like to dig through cabinets and being disabled it is hard for me.
But, I don't like clutter either as they are just  dust catchers.

  1. Oh, I love seeing these pictures of your home! I think you have a lovely and cozy house that looks warm and inviting. It's interesting that you say you have painted the lower half of your china cabinet and use it more like a TV console area apparently? That seems to be the trend that we are seeing here at Dixie Cottage. People want the console tables for TV's now instead of the whole china cabinet. I guess displaying china is becoming passe'. I love the look of your front "porch" idea. But your front door and window are lovely too. I love a bay window. I enjoyed your post and seeing a glimpse into your lovely home. Thank you.

  3. Oh Annie, I love your Little Cottage by the Sea. You have things arranged so pretty, it's very inviting for sure. I had to laugh at myself, why??? Because your night stand is so neat and minimal, mine looks like a garage sale! lol Hope that nasty cold goes away soon. Sending you a ((hug)) across the miles.
