Home Sweet Home

Hi! It's cold and windy and March has come in like a lion.  Will she go out like a lamb though? Time

will tell.  In the meantime we are due for some of the roughest and most dangerous weother across the USA from the mid west to the east coast.  Tornadoes, snow, rain, hail, dangerous wind are all predicted by my favorite weather man Max Velocity on YouTube.

Hello!  Welcome back to Toni Taddeo's Tuesday 4 where each week we ask you to consider 4 questions on various subjects.    The goal is to get you thinking, considering, talking and getting to know yourself and other bloggers.
Be it ever so humble there is no place like home . Let's talk about homes okay?

1.  In some places people name their homes or properties. What would you name your home and why?
If you would not name it, why wouldn't you?
Lily Pond Cottage or just LIly Cottage.  .  I love the idea of people naming their homes and propertiy even if you live in an apartment.

2.  Are you more of a romantic or a pragmatist when it comes to your home or apartment's decor and color?
I am a combination of both.  I like the romantic look but I recognize that there are pragmatic things to be concerned about. Romantic does not always lend itself to practical or easy, so some compromise is necessary.    Also I think too much of one look can be so overwhelming.    The romantic look that I like is more of the dark or light academia style, not the all pink and white ruffles everywhere look.

Dark Academia style

3.   Do you have enough room in your home? Storage space, kitchen cabinets?  What would you add or subtract from your home?
No.  I have the old fashioned 2 foot wide closets that hold very little and only 2 of them.  I have no basement as I live too close to the water and the water table is too high and my attic is not one that I can acess anymore.  I do need more room.
Also, when you are disabled you need more room. Downsizing is not a good idea if you become handicapped, break a leg, etc.   A good many older people find that out after they downsize and find they can't manuever around very well.   Small houses don't accomodate walkers, canes, or wheelchairs.   Think hard before you downsize too much.

4.  Is your place really home sweet home ?  Would it be hard to leave it ?   Are you firmly rooted in your abode or would you move if a better opportunity came your way?
I have never had the opportunity to choose a home.    I just fell into them through someone else but I am grateful for what I have and I live in a very nice area for sure.   However,  I would leave for a bigger house for sure and for one in better shape.   But I have a good size piece of property, some ponds, close acess to the bay, rivers, creeks and salt marsh.   My animal friends are buried on the property. One of my neighbors has a grandpa buried on their property though I doubt they realize it now as the house has changed hands a few times since my daughter owned it.

  1. I enjoyed reading your answers Annie and hearing the name of your home. I would have guessed Cottage by the Sea or Lemon Cottage as per your blog names/headers. I agree with you that older people need to think carefully about their downsizing needs. I think about it a lot in my current space and thus would be willing to move if I ever find something 'better'.

  2. Yikes, didn't know that about a person being buried on the property. We once lived in an old house in NY and it had a cemetery in the back.---have a great day Annie.

  3. Did you really mean to say a "Grandpa" buried on the property? Just wondering... I enjoyed your answers and I would love to see more of your little Lily Cottage...but I agree with Joyful above in thinking it would be called "Cottage by the Sea" or Lemon Cottage. But sometimes our original ideas change after we live in a place for a while and it takes on new meaning for us in other ways. Either way, your home location sounds so lovely. But I do understand the need for more storage space. My problem isn't really not having enough space, but organizing the storage that I have. Little by little we are working on it. Thank you for doing this each week. We appreciate you!

    1. Yes, I did mean Grandpa! My daughter bought the house from the original owner, an elderly lady, whose husband was buried in the front yard under a Japanese red maple. She sold the house after a long stay there and bought a new one. Since then 2 more people have moved in but I doubt they know the man is buried there. I suspect it is his ashes. I am very happy to continue with Toni's Tuesday 4.

  4. The thought of moving from our home is not one I want to entertain, Annie. However, being realistic, that time may eventually come. I prefer a more pragmatic take on our home, but a touch of the romantic is fun, too. Blessings!

  5. Greetings !
Oh , I do like the blue cottage at the top of this post !
My preferred style is Beach Cottage , with white walls , warm wood floors and accents , windows looking out to the water , old fashioned cottage gardens ...it lives in my dreams ! Storage is a challenge for me, too , in my little home , but trimming down is ongoing ...sigh...

  6. I don't know that I'd want to know about a dead grandparent on my property...of course we should know so we don't go digging and accidentally come up on him. I love the name you would choose. I'd love to live on property with a pond or some body of water. I hadn't thought about the issue of being disabled and a smaller place, but that makes sense.
