Sandwich Time
Welcome once again to Toni Taddeo's Tuesday 4.
Sandwiches are a lunch time favorite.
1. In the 1930s two favorite sandwiches were ham, pickles and mustard and tuna with rice, capers, pepper and paprika. I think it probably needed mayo!
Sandwiches can be a simple peanut butter and jelly or a classy Monte Cristo.
1. What is your favorite sandwich and how do you make it?
A BLT.. I use kosher artifical vegan bacon, Jersey tomatoes, Hellman's Mayonnaise and pepper on toast. I could easily eat a dozen of them and if I could still have sugar, I would make me an iced tea with sugar and lemon. For now I drink plain iced tea with lots of ice.
2. What is the best bread for making toast? How about for making sandwiches?
My mother swore by Pepperidge Farm but here is the story to that... She bought a loaf and in one slice was a wad of chewing tobacco!! She called Pepperidge Farm and the company head called her back. He was so deeply upset that my mother felt bad for him. We were given a year supply of all Pepperidge Farm products and my mother was very impressed by their reaction to it. She only called to alert them but they took it very very seriously.
So, I grew up on that bread. Personally though, I do like sourdough bread and challah for toasting and for sandwiches I like Italian bread or toasted Wonder Bread.
3. If you go out to eat for lunch are you more likely to stay with a safe choice or be more adventurous?
It depends where I go for lunch. It could be a hamburger, falafal, tacos, sandwich, pizza. I am not too adventurous with food.
4. Dagwood, hoagie, submarine, Po boy, grinder. Whatever they are called where you are, do you like them and if so what do you want on it?
Where I am in South Jersey we call them "Subs" and there are dozens of places to choose from in buying them.
Making them at home I will use an Italian short loaf, homemade meatballs in Italian sauce. That's a favorite for me.
Or.. I will deep fry a hot dog, fry up some potatoes and some fried sweet red peppers , green peppers and onions and make an Italian hot dog. I like them with Polish mustard and ketchup mixed.

I also love Philly Cheesesteaks..
Ok. I am making myself crazy hungry here.

Dagwood and his (in)famous sandwiches - who, in our generation, could ever forget? I absolutely love a BLT or a Reuben sandwich. I was brought up with Pepperidge Farm bread, too, but now we only eat sourdough as it contains no seed oils. Also, if you're watching carbs, you can freeze bread overnight and it does reduce the negative effects of those carbs. I'm thanking my hubby for that info.
ReplyDeleteBlessings, Annie!
I remember reading Dagwood comics growing up. How I loved the comic strips. I share your love of BLT but I've never heard of an Italian hotdog. That would appeal to me.
ReplyDeleteMy mom always made BLT's in the summer when I was a kid. She would say it was too hot to make a big dinner. I loved them.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed your story about Pepperidge Farm. I love that they took that seriously. Loved your answers! Have a nice Tuesday!

WoW about the Pepperidge Farm bread. The comic strip reminded me of my older brothers, they were always making themselves a dagwood sandwich. I was much younger and it always fascinated me. How could they eat all that? Somethings just remain a mystery. lol
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed your answers. I finally got my Tues4Meme posted.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite sandwich , laden with wonderful memories of making and eating them with my Dad , are Open-faced Tomato Sandwiches...only full-flavored Jersey tomatoes will do !
ReplyDeleteAnother beautiful header !
ReplyDeleteI found these sandwiches interesting, generally not the type I would eat
ReplyDeleteThat Italian hot dog sounds delicious. I don't mind a blt occasionally as well but would relpace the bacon with ham. Have a nice week.
ReplyDeleteOh My your sub sounds great. I love a blt as well.
