Today, Thursday, I asked my Google home thingy what the weather would be and it said no chance of rain at all... while outside the rain was falling and it was thundering.
So much for that.
That's fine.. America doesn't have to make sense anymore. We now arrest people for felony sandwich throwing. "Your honor, he assaulted me with a roast beef sandwich!" Oh the horror!!
Yeah, yeah.. I get it, blah blah, blah... you shouldn't 'assault' people. Well what if the sandwich didn't have salt on it? Is it still assault? I say NO!
Your honor, I demand justice for the only victim here... the sandwich which entered the scene with pure delectible intentions and was cruelly used and abused both by the defendent who threw it and the callus Fed who dissed it by brushing it off as if it was unworthy! Imagine how this must have felt for the sandwich!
Your honor, people in the world are starving and this was utter waste .. depraved indifference too.
Life in a maximum security prison somewhere on Devil's Island is too good for them.!
I rest my case.
Oh well.. onward to the true reason for being here:
Saturday 9: Colors of the Wind (1995)
Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.
This month we're going to recall Summer Songs. These will all be records that topped the charts during August.
1) Number 1 on the charts in August 30 years ago, "Colors of the Wind" is from the Disney hit, Pocahontas. Have you seen it?
No. I don't like cartoons/movies that portray fictional history and also just don't like tear jerkers.
I've seen only a few Disney movies. Just not a fan.
Her real name was Matoaka and her English name was Rebekah. She was a member of the Powhatan nation.
2) This song celebrates the glories of nature. Have you spent much time outdoors this summer? If yes, what have you enjoyed doing?
I try to spend time outside every single day as I feed my fishies. I just enjoy being in the sunshine most of all.
3) Lyricist Stephen Schwartz said he was inspired by the works of Chief Seattle, Henry David Thoru, and Ralph Waldo Emerson. Who is your favorite author?
I have a few... Agatha Christie, Robert Parker, Longfellow, and Charles Dickens and Washington Irving.
4) This week's artist, Vanessa Williams, came to national attention as Miss America 1984. In the talent competition she sang "Happy Days Are Here Again." Over the years, contestants have sung, recited original poetry, danced, twirled batons, performed gymnastics and demonstrated martial arts. Which of your talents would wow the judges?
Probably none of them.
My mother would watch the Miss America stuff but my father hated it and called it a meat market.
5) Her family tree includes William A. Fields, who served in the Tennessee House of Representatives in the late 19th century. Are you interested in genealogy?
It's kind of interesting but has little to do with who you are in the end. You are blessed with free will... you don't have to follow in your ancestors shoes.
6) Vanessa supports the non-profit Dress for Success, which helps unemployed and underemployed women prepare with career coaching, networking and professional attire. Have you ever gone into a job interview found yourself unprepared? Or, if you prefer, tell us about an interview you confidently aced.
When I was much younger I went for a job interview at a jewelry store. I had to take a bus and walk part of the way and it began to rain. I was soaked through and a car splashed mud on me. Of course I looked like something the cat dragged in and didn't get the job. On the way home I fell down and skinned me knee and as the rain turned to sleet and icy snow, I noticed my dress had hiked up into my coat and my slip was all that was showing. My shoes were soaked completely through and I was so pathetic looking.
Yes, I had gone through with the interview.. ripped pantyhose and all because it was such an ordeal to get there. I explained to the lady but she was a horrid snob and had no pity at all. I was working full time and going to Rutgers full time. Yes, it's impossible but many have done it, though exhausted most of the time!
On a brighter note, when I graduated and went for a job as a medical technologist I got a glowing recommend from my teachers and was hired in a couple of minutes. I was given a higher salary on the first day too. That was quite nice!
7) 1995's best-selling new car was the Ford Taurus. That summer, dealers were promoting a 6.9% APR loan or $1,500 cash back with purchase. This summer, drivers with good credit might get a better deal because the average APR for new car loans is a little lower. Do you keep your eye on fluctuating interest rates?
No. I buy everything with cash. If I don't have the money, I don't buy it until I have the cash to do so.
8) English yachtswoman Lisa Clayton made history by sailing solo around the world. It took her 10 months. Would you be comfortable spending months and months alone?
Sure. 100%
9) Legendary New York Yankee Mickey Mantle died in 1995. How is your baseball team doing this season?
I guess my team would be the Blue Claws who are a Philadelphia Philies team in Lakewood, NJ.
I enjoy their games a lot and the stadium is just so nice.
This is me in my Blue Claws cap.
About 2 years ago the Mascot proposed to me during a game. Ahh.. young love.

That whole felony thing is baloney! That guy should not have thrown it, but the punishment should fit the crime. Our judicial system is backwards. Wow, that is some story about your job interview. I sure am glad you got a good job at the end.
ReplyDeleteWell...I have a different take on that guy who threw the sandwich, he knew better, and I read he was a federal employee. I think, perhaps we (as in America) are a little weak in punishment for crimes, humanity has gone to the wasteland. That guy knew better...but really, maybe I shouldn't comment because where I work, LOL. Wow got proposed too by a mascot, I am super-duper impressed, LOL. Wishing you a beautiful day my friend.
ReplyDeleteOh Annie, your interview story. I think we all have a bad one we can talk about. God works things out though.
ReplyDelete#9- that story is adorable! Loved your answers. Have a nice weekend.

That interview … I feel for you.
ReplyDeleteThe sandwich story … the guy who threw the sandwich was definitely overcharged, it’s at best a misdemeanor.
Go Blue Claws!
Lovely to visit here ...always interesting information !
ReplyDeleteHave a splendid day !
I enjoyed your baloney story, it was perfect and I agree with you. Your interview story reminded me of one I had that was bad - I wrecked the car on the way to the interview and showed up with blood on my knee and feeling wretched. Didn't get the job, of course.
