Welcome to Toni Taddeo's Tuesday 4. Tradition is an important part of any family or community and so important that people will fight to be sure they are not neglected or done away with.
From the first day of Autumn, to Halloween, All Saints Day, and Thanksgiving autumn brings many different traditions from all around the world.
School kids cut out paper leaves, pumpkins,etc. Homemakers change decor to reflect the new season.
Sweaters come out of storage... the weather is changing.
1. Why is tradition important to you?
Tradition adds consistency to life . Traditions are something to look forward to and create a connection with family, friends and community. I liake that.
2. Have family traditions helped to shape who you are?
Yes. Those traditions made wonderful memories, warmth in the heart and a love of people.
3. Do you believe that tradition helps a community or shapes the unity of family and community?
Tradition and love of your fellowman are the core of unity. Love can unify the whole world as one . Traditions bring people closer together.
4. Are there any traditions you would like to bring back and why?
Yes. Big football Mums for Thanksgiving. Orchid corsages for Mothers Day. Birthday corsages for girls.... A pretty homemade corsage with the following things woven in or dangling from the main corsage.
Bring back the summer strawberry festivals, the town 4th of July celebrations, the community pot luck dinners, spaghetti dinners and dances by local clubs, churches etc.
The Thanksgiving eve bon fires and the big rivalry games on Thanksgiving. Pancake breakfasts by local fraternal organization which everyone would attend.
Town fish fries, dances for teens by the CYOs and the MYF... all of these are so important.
Bring back Christmas caroling.

I love all your ideas for traditions that need to be brought back. Our community and our church already does a lot of that. Our church does a community breakfast every month, and so does the American Legion Hall on a different week. Our town also has a 4th of July all day festival in the park, with fireworks at night. They have a fall festival also, and a Christmas parade. Our church did do some Christmas caroling last year, and I hope they do it again. I had a sore throat that day and couldn't participate. I do love living in a small town where these kinds of things are still done. It makes a difference in developing town pride and a communal spirit.

Our town does a parade every year and then a 4th of July show in the evening. I like your list at the end. The small church I grew up in had a lot of those things and I think of it fondly.
