Working in the Coal Mine (1966)  

My maternal grandfather and great grand worked as coal miners. It was a terrible, dangerous, hard job and the great grand had a mine blow up in his face.

I was still sleeping in my cozy bed.(Friday AM)

2) He's worked so hard all week that he's too tired to enjoy his weekend. What are you doing for fun this holiday weekend?

There is nothing planned.

3) Lee Dorsey was raised in Portland Oregon, home of the Portland Trailblazers. The NBA season kicks off next month. Do you have a favorite basketball team?

I live close to Philadelphia and to New York City.  So I will split it between the Philly 76ers and the New York Knicks.\

4) This song was written by Allen Toussaint, who had a long career as a composer and producer. He produced Fats Domino in the late 1950s and worked with Elvis Costello and Paul McCartney into the new millennium. What job have you held the longest?   The longest was the best.... raising kids and being a mom.

5) In 1966, the year this song was popular, celebrity chef Gordon Ramsey was born. Are you a good cook?             Yes, people do seem to like my food.   Speaking of which, the Little arrived at Culinary Institute of America on Thursday ready to start her first semester.    While still in high school she worked for a Michelin chef who found her to be very talented.   *Proud"

6) 1966 was the year when more Americans purchased color TVs and black and white sets. When you were a kid, did your family have a black and white TV?

Sure.  As a kid that was what we all had.

7) Labor Day is a big weekend for mattress sales. Do you plan on buying a new mattress before the year is out?

I bought one just a few years ago. Queen size no less and I am not happy with the huge size of it or the price of sheets for queens. But, it is what it is.

8) Though kids go back to class earlier these days, store aisles are still full of school supplies. When she was a little girl, Sam was crazy about her big box of 96 Crayola Crayons with a sharpener in the back. Share one of your back-to-school memories.

In New Jersey you don't go back until after Labor Day.   My fond memories include walking down the street toward school and   collecting pockets full of chestnuts!  

9) Labor Day weekend is the unofficial beginning of fall. Have you had any pumpkin spice yet?

Yes.  I made myself a pumpkin spice coffee Friday morning with Ceylon cinnamon and some pumpkin spice powder, pumpkin puree, heavy cream and nutmeg.

The Wednesday Hodgepodge

Tonight , Tuesday, we are in the midst of a huge thunderstorm and the sea is roaring mad.  The lightning is non stop.  The weather suddenly turned hot and humid today too... ugly high humidity.  Its been so cool with chilly nights so we are spoiled.  Storm in the Atlantic are raging right now though.

 From this Side of the Pond

1. What's something you wanted to do this summer that you never got around to doing?  Have a ton of barbeques with hot dogs, potato salad, Boston baked beans, salad, watermelon ... all the goodies.

 2. Were you the student who sat in the front row or hid in the back of the class? Our seats were assigned. You sat according to the teachers plan.

 If you could go back and take one high school class again just for fun, which would it be?   Well if I go back and can not be disabled anymore I would take gym again for fun.  I loved it and was very athletic.

 3. What characteristics do you think are essential in a good teacher (this can be applied to anyone who teaches, not just classroom teachers)? 

Patience , kindness and good humor.

 4. September 2nd is National Grits Day. Have you ever eaten grits?  Yes I have.

 Are you a fan?  Nppe!

 If so how do you like yours?      I like them best if they are on someone else's menu but not mine.

 Would people describe you as 'having grit'?  I guess so but you need to ask them.

 5. What's something you're never too old or too young to enjoy?     Having a good time and a good life.
