The fire is still going on though the news has tired of it. The "Jones Road Fire" is now 80% contained , the boy they caught goes to court in a day or so though his lawyer says he was not alone.
There is a discussion going around about the length of a day lately with many saying a day is now only 18 hours long. It certainly isn't unusual for people to notice days going by more quickly.
The Inuit people see it in the sun as it effects their hunting. Greek monks who burn 24 hour candles notice that for some time now there have been 6 hours left to the candle at the end of the day and another religious group in the east notices they cannot fit their days 24 hour schedule anymore. They are 6 hours shy.

May First is May Day the Communist holiday. It is also the eve of Beltaine or Calan Mai the pagan day of the god of fire... "Jack be nimble, Jack be quick, Jack jump over the candle stick". Walking between fires was said to keep you from harm. You had to sleep with salt by your bed and jump over the candlestick to symbolize that you had escaped being given to Moloch in the fire!
All in all it is an evil ugly holiday celebrated with maypoles and bonfires all of which have very ugly origins.
On Calen Mai it is the half way mark between Spring and Summer and it is said the boundaires of heaven and earth are thinned allowing evil to cross over to earth. It is the night, tonight, when evil roams the earth. It is not exactly a lovely, dovey holiday at all.
So, no happy May Day from me.

Yikes, I guess there is a darker side or origin to most everything that people do. I remember doing the Maypole in elementary school out on the playground. My mother said that when she was little they used to make baskets of flowers and take them around and leave them on the neighbor's doors...May Baskets. We don't do anything in particular. It just reminds us that spring is fleeting by and soon it will be summer. I am sorry you are still having fires. I am glad they caught the perpetrator, and I hope if there are others that they will be caught also. They definitely need to be held accountable. I am glad that you are safe, but I am sorry for all those around who may have lost homes or property or have been injured due to the fire. We all need rain so badly. Praying God will send us some lovely spring rains soon. I hope you have a blessed and peaceful rest of your week.
ReplyDeleteI knew about the first of May being a Communist holiday, but had no idea about the other evil supposedly unleashed on that day. Thanks for the info, Annie!
ReplyDeleteWhen I was very young , we wove construction paper , handled baskets in school , and when flowers were tucked inside , they were indeed hung on favorite neighbors' doors... a gentle gift for those we loved .
