Here is Saturday 9.
Happy Weekend and Chag Sukkot Sameach. As this holy day season is very busy, I will be around to visit blogs more in a few days.
Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you ato visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love memes, however, and here is today's meme!
Saturday 9: Mambo No. 5 (1999)
Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.
1) Lou Bega namechecks a lot of women in this song. Is there an Angela, Pamela, Sandra, Rita, Monica, Erica, Tina, Mary, or Jessica in your life? Yes to Pamela and Sandra.
2) Can you think of a song that includes your first name? Annie's Song by John Denver, Ann by Bread, and Anne's Theme from the Anne of Green Gables program.
3) Lou sings that flirting is like a sport. Do you enjoy flirting? It's not really my thing but I suppose I have in the past.
4) While Lou Bega's recording became a big hit worldwide, it enjoyed great popularity, where it was used during televised cricket matches. Do you know anything about the game of cricket? Not really.
5) When Lou was riding high with "Mambo No. 5," Cher invited him to open for her on her 1999-2000 tour. Cher has more than 50 hit records, two television series, a Broadway show and an Oscar under her belt. Can you think of another performer who has succeeded in so many areas of entertainment? Barbra Streisand and many others too.
6) Lou turned 50 in April of this year. Are you soon celebrating a big birthday (one that ends in a 0 or 5)? My birthday is 2 days before Thanksgiving this year and sometimes it falls on Thanksgiving but it's not a big one this year.
7) In 1999, when "Mambo No. 5" was on the radio, the movie American Pie premiered and was so popular it inspired three sequels. Have you seen any of the American Pie films? No I haven't.
8) Also in 1999, Walmart opened its first store in the UK. Do you often shop at Walmart? No. I really don't like the store. They don't clean it up and it attracts a lot of odd people sometimes. Walmart also put a lot of small stores out of business.
9) Random question – Have you recently fallen asleep somewhere other than your bed? If yes, where did you doze off? I fall asleep at my desk sometimes.

That featured song was definitely not up my alley. Have a great weekend, Annie!
ReplyDeleteI put Barbra too. I posted on Tuesday 4 too.
ReplyDeleteI always enjoyed Barbra Streisand's music. And thank you for the mention of "Pamela", although I know you know other Pamela's besides me. Although I am not a big fan of Walmart, we do shop there for "big items" that are too expensive in the regular grocery stores. Our store is pretty nice and clean, but yes, you do see some strange "outfits" that people wear when shopping there. Nothing really surprises me much anymore. I enjoyed your answers. Hope you have a lovely weekend.
ReplyDeleteDo you like having your birthday near a holiday? Mine is in February, right around Valentines Day and Presidents Day. I like having the day off when it falls near Presidents Day, but I don’t like sharing with V day.
ReplyDeleteTake care during the storm, it sounds like your location is going to get pounded even worse than we will here on Long Island.
My mom's birthday is the same day as yours and fortunately I will be off that whole week for Thanksgiving Break at school. Maybe we can take her out to eat for her birthday and then I was thinking of just bringing her to our house for Thanksgiving. Loved your answers! Have a great weekend.

All birthdays are important and big, my friend. Wishing you a lovely evening. smiles
ReplyDeleteI thought I had heard most of Bread's songs, but Ann was new to me. I used to fall asleep to their "greatest hits" album when I was a teen. I may have heard it long ago and forgotten.
ReplyDeleteHello !
ReplyDeleteAll "buttoned down" , in prep before the storm...just in case .
Stay safe , my friend !
I always enjoy reading the answers to this meme. My birthday is two days AFTER Thanksgiving! We're almost twins!
ReplyDeleteI'm not a fan of Walmart either. When I worked until 11 pm as a nurse, I stopped at Walmart on my way home for something I needed. Never again - although it was quite entertaining!
Have a great weekend.
