Most Popular Names of 2011

Each year I wait for the list. I am very interested in the trends.
I prefer Biblical names myself. Each year many biblically based names appear on the list.
This year, Jacob or Yaacov in the original, Ethan,Michael, Daniel and Noah for boys and biblical names for girls are, Isabella(though its really Jezebel in its original form or Izavel), Ava might be Chava or "Eve" and Abigail or Avigayil is the Hebrew form.

Most popular names list for this year:
For Boys:

  • Jacob
  • Ethan
  • Michael
  • Jayden
  • William
  • Alexander
  • Noah
  • Daniel
  • Aiden
  • Anthony

And for Girls:

  • Isabella
  • Sophia
  • Emma
  • Olivia
  • Ava
  • Emily
  • Abigail
  • Madison
  • Chloe

Sweet names but things have changed a lot over the years. It seems that celebrities have a lot of influence, as do soap opera characters etc.
Which are your favorites?

Have a lovely weekend.

  1. Happy Friday Annie;

I think I like Isabella and Sophia for girls and I'm surprised to see Michael and Anthony are still among favorites for boys. They've been on the top name list for years. I personally like Dominic and Matthew myself. All names I didn't pick for my own children. LOL!

Have a lovely weekend and a wonderful Mother's Day my friend. Hugs

  4. Hi Annie! I think Jacob has been #1 for 10 years. I also think Twilight has helped keep it at the top of the list. Same with Isabella- popular since Tom Cruise named his daughter and now Bella is popular because of Twilight. I'm surprised Edward isn't there. And Elvis has left the building of the top 1000 names! ;) Have a nice weekend!

And I know quite a few kids with those names born in the last couple of years. Hope you have a wonderful Mother's Day!

  8. I wish my name was Elizabeth...always have! You asked about my friend Jan. She is continuing to receive chemo, althought they stopped for a couple of weeks because of her low white cell count. I believe she will begin a trial program soon...some type of new radiation treatment. Please continue to pray for her. She needs your prayers:)
