Here is Saturday 9 instead...

Saturday 9: God Bless America
Unfamiliar with Deanna Durbin's rendition of week's tune? Hear it here.
Memorial Day is the federal holiday designated to honor American service people who died in battle.
1) Memorial Day was introduced after the Civil War. Originally called Decoration Day, this is when memorials, as well as the graves of veterans, are to be decorated with flags and flowers on this day to show our appreciation. Is there a war memorial in your neighborhood?
Not in my neighborhood, no.
2) Andrew Johnson, our 17th President, was in office the first time Memorial/Decoration Day was celebrated. Have you ever met one of our 45 Presidents?
Yes. I met a couple of them.
3) According to the AAA, more than 30 million Americans will hit the road this weekend and drive more than 50 miles. Will you be traveling far from home this weekend?
Nope. I stay home. Too many tourists on the road this week. The Snow Birds are also returning from Florida and clogging up the place.
4) Memorial Day kicks off the summer season. What's your favorite picnic food?
Hot dogs!
5) As you answer these questions, is there an air conditioner or fan on?
No it is in the 60's, windy and cool.
6) Though she's belting out one of America's best loved patriotic songs, Deanna Durbin was born in Canada. Is there anyone in your family or circle of friends who wasn't born in the USA?
Yes. Most of my father's side of the family are from Ireland and Scotland.
7) No longer a household name, Ms. Durbin was once one of the biggest stars in the country. One of her most popular films was 1937's One Hundred Men and a Girl, which was nominated for a Best Picture Oscar. Recommend a movie that you really like, but don't think many Saturday 9ers have seen.
A good old movie is A Date with Judy. Jane Powell stars along with a teen Elizabeth Taylor. Well worth a watch. It's a wonderful old movie.
8) Back in 1938, Deanna Durbin had her hand prints cemented in front of the TCL Chinese Theater on Hollywood Blvd. Have you ever visited that Los Angeles tourist attraction?
Back then it was called Grauman's Chinese Theatre.
No I have never been to Los Angeles, which, back in the day was pronounced as Los Angle..is.. yes as in right angle.
9) Random question: What food did you hate as a child, but enjoy now?
My evil, stupid much older (old enough to be my mother) sister once put a tablespoon of horrid caviar in my mouth. I was very little, and it tasted like low tide on Barnegat Bay.. it was horrific. I hated it then, I hate it now..sorry . I have not changed my mind on that rotten food. Other than that, there is nothing.
Giggling over your answer to #9! It makes me glad to have been an only child. LOL I don't hate caviar, though. It's more that I have no feelings about it at all. I had it once and didn't think it tasted like much of anything.
ReplyDeleteTotally agree on caviar smiles. Have a lovely weekend (and I agree on the "Happy" Memorial Day).
ReplyDeleteLOL! I hate caviar too and agree on #3. Enjoyed reading your answers dear Ann. Have a day of blessings.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness... what a rotten thing your sister did! I don't like caviar either! Have a great Saturday and weekend!
ReplyDeleteBlech! One o my girlfriend's dad was a real prankster and once he stuck a peppercorn in my mouth! I will never forget it! Mean! I have never tasted caviar. Yes, travel this weekend can be hazardous to your health! Enjoy your weekend and that wonderful weather! It is hot here. I have noticed that Jane Powell movie, but never watched it. Will check it out.
ReplyDeleteThere are a lot of tourists here too keeping me home. The weather is super hot though. Loved your answers! Have a nice Memorial Day weekend!

I've never tasted caviar, and don't intend to. You've convinced me that I haven't missed anything! LOL. Loved your answers. Those old movies sound good...I would like to find them. We don't travel on holidays either if we can help it. We've usually had people travel to our house for the day, but not this year. I think we are all getting to that point of not wanting to travel. However I just remembered, we have guests coming Monday to spend the night on their way to a conference south of here...so I guess I'd better get cracking...work to do...! Rooms to clean...bed to make...yikes! What am I doing sitting here? Relaxing and enjoying visiting with you. Have a good weekend. :)
ReplyDeleteHAHAHA< I love tyur cavieer story, and Im sure Id be the same,, but have never had the opportunity to try it... that or escargot.. But maybe it depends on who might have been serving it to me... now back in the day, if say James Bond offered me a bite, Id try it for sure and try to not hold my nose!
ReplyDeleteI had never considered the word "Happy" as distasteful, but do see your point. I've always used it from a point of being grateful not joyful. It appears the majority of us agree with you on caviar. I do envy you the temps there. We are already experiencing high 90's with a heat index in the 100's and typical Louisiana humidity.
ReplyDeleteYou met presidents and didn't go into detail! Inquiring minds want to know more!
ReplyDeleteI remember we went to the Chart House one time, and they had caviar on the salad bar. I thought oooo, fancy, and tried some. I cannot, for the life of me, see what people see in the stuff. Ick.
