Home Tuesday 4

Already Tuesday and only a few weeks until Spring. We have barely had any winter here at all. But I realize the Solar Minimum is messing with the weather.
Once again time for Tuesday 4 which is about home keeping this time.
1.  Are you an impulse  buyer or do you weigh the value/cost/ necessity before you buy?
I was an impulse buyer but you end up with garbage you really don't need. So now I weigh the value of things and whether it is just wanting to have something or needing something.

2. What do you really resent having to pay for?
Water. No one should have to pay for what is provided naturally.
We had a well and it was great, but they made everyone in town shut them down and buy water. Ugh. I wonder whose pockets were lined with bribes from the water company.

3.   Do you have  favorite brands of household cleaners, detergents, soaps? Can you tell us why you like them? Maybe you will give us better ideas.
I used to love Oxydol but it's hard to find now, so I use Tide as it works well.
I use Downy fabric softener, BarKeeper's Friend for sinks and things.
I really like Sprayway glass cleaner which sprays out into a foam, doesn't leave streaks and has a wonderful scent to it.
I use Weiman's furniture polish and I like Murphy's Oil soap for cleaning other things.
I use Kirk's soap or Ivory for my skin and I am told I get compliments  about my complexion so I guess they are okay.

4.  What is a typical day of housekeeping for you?
I make beds daily, change sheets weekly.
The bathroom is cleaned daily. I wipe faucets, clean out sink, wipe down toilet with sanitary wipes. Once or twice a week I do the bathroom floor.
I clean the kitchen daily.
Floors are washed through the house weekly.
Carpet gets vacuumed daily.
I do polishing furniture once every other week, kitchen cabinets every 6 months.
Windows every other month. They get salty and sticky a bit I and attract dirt.
Laundry is done 2 or so times a week.
I dust a bit daily so it never gets too much.
I really enjoy cleaning and keeping the house and garden nice. It is a great feeling of accomplishment for me.. and as Solomon says: "Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all of your might."

Won't you please visit the other bloggers who are doing this so we can enlarge the circle of friends.

See you tomorrow.

  1. It wasn't having to have city water that upset everyone in our neighborhood, but the demand that everyone had to hook into the sewage system (everyone had their own septic tanks) and having to pay $1000 for the privilege plus hiring someone to run sewer lines from your house out to the street. One family refused and rented a porta potty for a couple of years while being fined daily. The township finally won the case in court. The porta potty had to go, they had to pay the tap-in fee and 2 years worth of fines. And yet, I know of one family that didn't have it because the township made a goof and the line comes from both directions on the street, but stops too far away. Why the lines never were connected is anyone's guess.

  2. Oh don't even get me going on the government, sigh. I had forgotten all about the salty air and how it messes with things.

Keeping you and your family in prayer.

  4. How does your back hold out with the housework? I guess it is a form of exercise. I think dusting is the thing I dislike because of my allergies. But it has to be done, probably more often than not. But when I am working on an art project/Bible jouranling,a few days can go by.

    1. It is good exercise like you said. The journaling is more important then housework.

  5. My back kills me when I do housework, but I loved keeping a clean house when I was younger. That is why I clean in spurts. Loved your answers! Have a nice week.

  6. I am impressed with your cleaning regimen. I am not quite that diligent, but I do like a clean house. Hubby does the vacuuming most of the time as I can't do it so much anymore with my back. But I do everything else. I used unscented laundry soap and softeners. I cannot abide strongly scented soaps, etc. We have city water now, but I prefer a well. I don't like paying that bill for chlorinated water that I have to filter in order to drink. I dust once a week and clean bathrooms once a week, with extra cleaning as needed. Laundry is almost daily with three people in the house, although my son does his own most of the time. Sheets once a week. I used to hang the sheet out to dry, but I don't have a clothesline here, so I don't do that anymore. I do love sheets dried on the line however. Nothing beats that fresh scent and crisp feeling of clean sheets. Sorry I missed doing this post this week.

  7. You blog looks so pretty. Isn’t it fun to change it up. I used to move the furniture around for a change. Changing my blog around is my forte now Hee hee! I am impressed with your cleaning schedule. I’m not into it, if it looks straight and not too dusty I can live with it. Oh, well! Have a great rest of your week!

  8. I hadn't thought about water like that, but, yes! You're right! All the years I was growing up we had a well and the water was so good! Its a shame they've closed most of them down now. Hope your week is going well! Blessings!
