MealTimes

Hey!   Welcome back to Toni Taddeo's Tuesday 4 and if you are new we are so happy to have you join in.  The more the merrier.    Our goal is to help you blog, meet new friends and learn about other people and their interests and thoughts!

This week let's talk about food and menus past and present....

1. What was your favorite meal as a child? As a teen?  As a young adult and what is it be now?

As a kid I loved spaghetti. It was my all time favorite then and it is my favorite now.

2. What did Mom make for breakfast? Lunch?   Dinner?    Do you recall the menus?

Breakfast was usually eggs or hot cereal.  Most favorite for me was a boiled egg with toast cut into slices for dipping.

My favorite lunch was usually grilled cheese. I just loved that so much.

Dinner was roast beef, fried chicken, fish, cutlets of some sort, German rouladen, but always a home cooked meal.

3. How was dinner time as a young newly wed? Plain.. fancy?  Set the table of just catch as catch can?  If you aren't married, how was dinner living on your own?  Do you invite people over or to go out to eat?

I cooked as I had eaten at home.. roasts, meat loaf, rouladen, spaghetti, chicken dishes. Never casseroles as my mother considered them not to be real food for some reason.  So, I followed suit.  I often have people over to eat but I do a lot of casseroles now.

4. Is it important for family to eat together at the table in the evening or for breakfast?  Why do you think so or not?

Yes it is important to eat with family for every meal if possible. It is a time for bonding and connection.

Thanks for coming by and joining in.  You help make this more fun for everyone.

  1. I had not remembered how much I loved spaghetti nights as a kid. Also I still enjoy a really good grilled cheese sandwich!

  2. Loved this !
As a fan of food , with all its sensory delights , your mention of grilled cheese sandwiches hit a good note ! This is a wonderful creation - smells great cooking , all buttery...crunchy on the outside and properly over-filled with cheese , so it melts out and forms that lovely , crispy lacey goodness .
    Oh my !!!

  3. Wonderful questions and answers. I am sorry I didn't get around to it yet for today. Maybe tomorrow...but not sure. Things have been busy. I love spaghetti and I remember my mother's spaghetti. Seems like we had that once a week or every other week. I loved my mother's chicken...she used to broil chicken in the oven and it was so good. I remember her making "swiss steak", which is a round steak, pounded with a tenderizer hammer, and cooked in the electric skillet with canned tomatoes and onions, etc. and it was SO good with mashed potatoes. I haven't made that in ages because it is hard to get a decent round steak anymore. Oh, yes, grilled cheese sandwich and tomato soup is always a favorite too! Thank you for bringing back happy memories.

  4. I've never heard of rouladen. Love all of these you mentioned. I'm thinking of making spaghetti for superbowl.
