Cooking

Welcome back to Tuesday 4 created by Toni Taddeo.
Weather by the Seashore
Monday's weather is autumn-like: cold, rainy, blustery.   By Tuesday it will be chilly and still a bit windy.   I stuck my head out the front door this evening and my thought was "October!":    Now I could deal with October December all year long really.

1. When did you learn to cook

Watching at home and in 6 years of home economics class in school (7th-12thgrade). We learned cooking, sewing, home organization , house keeping and etc.  We learned about home heating systems, colors, decor.. all kinds of stuff.    It was a great course.

2.  How often in the week do you cook?     Order in? Go out?

I cook 7 days a week.  I can't afford to eat out or order in.  I also prefer good healthy food to what is made in restaurants etc.

3.  Which foods are absolutely necessary at a cookout?

I think potato salad is very necessary and it compliments your meat so nicely.  It's a great source of potassium too.   I like BBQ chicken, hot dogs, and baked beans  made with molasses.

4.  Do you have a meal you are especially good at making? or that people often request for you to make?

I make  good beef stroganoff.  I got the recipe from a friend and it is always a hit when I make it  My meatloaf is much requested by my family    My spaghetti sauce is pretty nice too.  I used to make good homemade mayo but it got eaten up so fast it was no longer worth it to make it.   Oh.. and Greek spinach pie was always popular with my family.

I am so glad people are taking part in Tuesday 4. Toni would be pleased.

  1. Oh my! All those things sound good. I didn't know potato salad was a good source of potassium, which is something I struggle with to keep up where it needs to be. Now I can add that to help as I love potato salad.

  2. Oh, I love a good beef stroganoff and meatloaf is a favorite here, too. It's good that you eat in every day...so much healthier for you. I'm trying to get myself back into the habit of cooking.

Learning to cook from those you love is a huge gift ! It is a way to continue their legacy every time you think about or prepare their recipes , and supplies that missing ingredient...love !
Have a splendid day , my friend !

  4. True, we did learn a lot in Home Economics! Way to go on cooking at home and eating healthy. I definitely agree with the potato salad! I didn't even think about my meatloaf and it is a requested meal but I just haven't been cooking the way I used too. I should make one!

  5. OOPS, Tuesday crept up on me. I am so sorry. I have not been feeling too great the past few days and today was kind of a wipe out day for me. Thank you for continuing Toni's legacy. I do appreciate it and try to participate as often as I can. I'm just a bit under the weather today. However, I learned to cook as a teenager by watching my mother. Then she had to go away on a trip to take care of her mother and left me at home with my Dad, and I did the cooking while she was gone. Daddy said I did a great job and he ate pretty well, so I guess I did okay. My family never complains. I do make a good Lasagna, chicken pot pie, meat loaf/ham loaf, scalloped potatoes, etc. I am not a fancy cook. We usually go out to lunch on Sunday with people from church at a local mom and pop diner that is very inexpensive and good. That's about it, except for any occasional out to breakfast. Thank you, Annie. I'll try to do better next time.

  6. I am so delighted that while my SIL was visiting this week he was able to find and correct what was causing me not to comment. It feels so good to a complete participant again! I real have been enjoying the questions lately. Thank you so much for hosting this! God bless you!
