$24 billion dollars are spent on Valentines Day gifts!  145 million cards are sent out and the average spent on gifts is $197.50 per person.

1. As a kid did you exchange Valentines at school with the other children? 

Yes. Our parents would buy packages of little cards to give out in class.  We gave one to everyone in the class so no one was left out.

2. Do you have special traditions for the day or does it pass on without much hoopla?

The past couple of years I was given a bouquet of flowers but, its brand new for me.

3 Today is the number one top day for flower and candy gifts.  The only other holidays that approach it are Christmas and Chanukah.  Do you ever receive candy , jewelry or flowers for the day?  Which is your favorite?

I love jewelry but I am grateful for whatever I get except candy since I can't eat it.

4. Zoos and  Pet rescues will name cockroaches or unpleasant animals after your ex and issue you a certificate.  They will even write your ex's name in cat litter for you.   What do you think of this "tradition"?      

I don't think much of this. It is a good way for them to make money but it keeps bad feelings alive and that's never a good thing.   St. Valentine was a man who paid for the weddings of poor girls, a charitable thing to do and so the day is based on love.   It is better to think about love and kindness on that day than to drag up old hurts and slights.
