Hello from the wilds of the Southern peninsula of the New Jersey seashore on this rainy Tuesday.
I'd be really remiss if I didn't join in with Tuesday 4 since I put it up in the first place, so here it is for this week. I do hope you enjoy the questions. Believe me, it gets daunting to come up with topics but, I seem to be plodding along or at least I hope I am.
1. Do you have a favorite family recipe? Would you share it?
These are called Funeral Potatoes in Utah.. cuz we serve them then or at pot lucks etc. Recipe is at the bottom of the post.
2. Do you have a favorite book? How about a movie? TV program?
I think my favorite book is Candace Bushnells One Fifth Avenue and I base that on having read it so many times. I would also have to include Charles Dickens A Christmas Carol and Robert Parkers Early Autumn. I can also add Agatha Christie's Hallowe'en Party to the list as it is not only Hercule Poirot but features Ariadne Oliver as well!
My favorite movie would be Moonstruck .. Where the Boys Are...A Summer Place...Peyton Place... Wilt Stillmans Metropolitan
3. What is your favorite snack? Favorite sandwich? My favorite snacks are unsalted Blue Tortilla chips and my taco dip and I also love no salt Kettle chips.4. What is your favorite color for a home exterior...a car...a room ?
I do love natural colors for a home like dark brown or green shades. I love this combination. Here, in this photo, it is a deep maroon red with the green but my first home was this shade of green with brown trim. It just blends with the natural surroundings and has always appealed to me.
I am partial to deep navy blue or English racing green , or Candy Apple red on cars. When I worked at Maaco for a bit, I was intrigued by the color called Plum Crazy.

For rooms: I like my Plantation tan by Behrs Paint which is what my walls are now, and I do like pale sage greens and the palest of lemony yellows. My kitchen is pale yellow.
Wicked good my friends and don't wait until a funeral to have them!
12 large potatoes or 1 (32 oz.) bag frozen shredded hash browns
2 (10¾ oz.) cans cream of chicken soup
2 cups sour cream
1 cup grated cheddar cheese
1/2 cup butter, melted
1/3 cup chopped onion
2 cups crushed corn flakes
2 tablespoons butter, melted
Peel potatoes and boil for 30 minutes, until just tender. Cool and grate into greased 9×13-inch baking dish (or put hash browns in baking dish). Combine soup concentrate, sour cream, cheese, ½ cup butter, and onions. Gently blend into potatoes. Combine crushed corn flakes and 2 tablespoons melted butter. Sprinkle on top. Bake at 350° F for 30 minutes. Makes 12 servings.
HAhaha, my first car out of college was a new Plum Crazy Dodge Challenger in 1971. I loved it for about 5 years then it got old on me. The white vinyl top got to looking not so great so we had the car repainted and did a new roof vinyl, it was a very pale grey. I rather loved the new look. Then we traded it in 1982 for a 5 speed Mazda. OH how I love driving a 5 speed! I also love your blog is is so pretty!!! Oh, yes, I too loved those great 60's movies. Can't beat them!!!
ReplyDeleteWe see a plum crazy Jeep around here...it says that on the side! I like my fire engine red Jeep! Enjoy your day!
ReplyDeleteThat recipe sounds amazing!! Do you eat it with salad?
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading your answers.
Have a great day!
Its eaten with a table full of other dishes usually. Salads, meats, etc.
DeleteThe recipe sounds good. I enjoyed your answers. Thank you for the questions...these were really good, but a little hard to pick a favorite as I have so many favorites. Thanks Annie!
ReplyDeleteOh, I love that potato casserole...I've had it before and I forgot about that recipe. I may need to revive that one for future pot lucks! It's a keeper. I love your choices of house colors, inside and out. I love natural colors too. Not sure I'd want a purple car, but maybe I would if I was younger and single. LOL. The first car hubby and I bought together was a beautiful copper colored Chevelle Malibu SS. I loved that one as it matched my hair color at the time, but it didn't have AC and we moved back to Florida and had to get rid of it. Traded it for a beautiful royal blue station wagon because #2 child was on the way. LOL. This was fun. Thank you again!
ReplyDeleteHi Annie, love the answers and your recipe too. Thank you. Love all those car colors and the house and walls too. Our son Nick is turning 30 this year, Oh My Goodness, No way! hahaha but he has a Kentucky Wildcat Blue (royal blue) wall in his room. We are Wildcat Basketball fans 100%. I had a neon blue little car that was called a Neon. My friend at work named her Tootie, said it fit her. I do like changing out our curtains and bed covers for each season. Thank you for keeping this up. I hope you stay warm and have a blessed day.
ReplyDeleteHi Annie! Nice to stop by and say hello. The seagulls are a delight on the screen! I've had funeral potatoes, they sure are yummy! Thanks for sharing the recipe. I am a natural color person, with occasional pops of color in the home. My husband likes red, so we both have red pickup trucks. Someday we'd like to own an old classic truck that is either cherry red or blue. Very fun to read your questions and responses! Blessings to you :)
ReplyDeleteOh my. I had my grandkids all week and cannot rememberr if I even commented on anyones post. I have had those potatoes and they're soo addicting. Enjoyed your other answers too
