We've had rain! It is helping put out the forest fires going on here. We are very thankful for that rain.
Welcome back to Toni Taddeo's Tuesday 4.
This week let's talk about home or the house in which you grew up.
1. What do you think of this picture.. the staircase. Do you like how it looks? Does it say "home" to you?
Would you like something that looks like this? I love the look of this picture and it's why I chose it for today's questions. Its so very old fashioned.. cottage and grandmacore as they now call it and invokes a spirit of warmth and love to me. I had an almost identical wallpaper in my bedroom as a very little girl.
2. Did you love growing up in your family home? Could you live in a house like that today? Yes to both questions. I would love to live in a Victorian house again. It is so warm and homey. I would move to one in a heartbeat if I could.
3. What did your bedroom look like when you were a teen?
My first bedroom had wallpaper just like in the picture. I shared a bedroom with my grandmother until I was 14 years old. For my birthday that year she bought me a cherry wood 4 poster bed, nightstand and dresser which I loved so much! The colors in my room were pale yellow, pale green and touches of deep pink. The floor was called linoleum rug and was from the late 1800s. It looked so nice. My cutrains were sheer with pastel yellow and green watercolor style flowers. My bedspread was a pale beige lace. I remember going to Macy's with my mother to pick them out. I also remember painting my bedroom myself on a Sunday afternoon.
4. What kind of vibes or atmosphere do you like to foster in your home today? Sophisticated, homey? Homey with touches of sophistication I would say. I also love touches of whimsy in the mix.
I loved hearing your story here. Your childhood bedroom sounded so wonderful. I loved when I was able to spend the night with my grandmother who was blind. She was my BFF forever & always. If I could take my childhood home and move it I would but I would still want the spectacular view we had of Pikes Peak. Thanks for sharing Annie.
ReplyDeleteOops! Did you forget to answer the last question? I want to hear your answer! LOL. Your bedroom sounds amazing as a teen! Wow!!! That would be a dream bedroom for any young lady (or old one too!). I do love the Victorian Style, but I just can't do the stairs anymore. I would have to live on the first floor! (and wonder what dust was accumulating upstairs!). I'm torn between Victorian and a Log Cabin or a Shabby Chic Cottage style. I enjoyed your answers, but you need to let us know about #4. Enquiring minds want to know. LOL>
ReplyDeleteI did forget Pam. I like a mix of things.. dark academia, grandma style, sophisticated, whimsical and homey and I think it can all fit together. I have Victorian chairs and more modern things. My sofa and 2 matching chairs are very Victorian. My table and chairs are pressback victorian oak... but I have much more modern things as well and some whimsical things like an opticians eyeglasses on the wall, and silly things like that.
DeleteHello , to one and all !
ReplyDeleteAfter many years of trying to decide on "My Style" , the one that makes me happiest is Beach Cottage . The white shiplap walls , wide windows , beautiful coastal views , screened porch , salt-scented breezes...aaahhhh . What I am most grateful for are the actual gifts provided by the Father , who provides my needs and even some of my wants...closeness to Him , food , shelter , material needs , wonderful friends , the ability to physically experience the beauties around me....
The picture looks a little too old fashioned for my taste. I do love the staircase. I did love my family home. It was nothing special, but it was home. I actually bought my parents' home when they moved to Florida, and I raised my kids in the same home I grew up in. My bedroom when I was a teen was amazing. I had a huge canopy bed. It was cherry wood and had a huge white canopy and comforter. I loved that bed! The dresser and nightstand matched the bed. I remember the day it was delivered, I thought I was in heaven! My home today is very lake house/beachy but homey as we live on a lake. I truly love my home.
ReplyDeleteI love the look of that staircase! It looks so pretty & homey. My parents are actually still in our family home! It looks mostly the same, but with little updates here and there. They just had the kitchen cabinets painted & that turned out nice. So fun to reminisce with this post!
