My grandmother liked to hear him sing I Can't Help falling in Love with You.
It's been raining for a few days now and it's been dousing the forest fire! It is more than 90% contained and taken over 15,500 acres.
Saturday 9: Mama Liked the Roses (1970) You can join Saturday 9 here.
Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.
Is it just me or does Elvis' face look chubby or swollen in this photo?
1) In this song, Elvis tells us his mother loved tending the roses in the garden. Do you have a green thumb?
My plants usually do well. I need help getting them in the ground though lately.
2) Mama would put the roses in a vase in the living room. Do you have cut flowers in your home right now?
No. I like to leave them outside. I have a big bush full of lilacs at the moment.
3) Elvis sings that he found Mama's rose petals pressed in the family Bible. Have you ever pressed petals in a book? If yes, what occasion were you commemorating?
Yes but I don't remember why or who they are from at all.
4) OK, so now we know Mama liked roses. What about you? Would you prefer white, pink, yellow or red roses?
I like pink, white and yellow. Red are nice too. I am not too fond of the purple ones. I remember when my mother planted a "sterling silver" rose that was a pale purple color.

5) Elvis' own mother, Gladys Presley, had a major impact on pop culture. When her son was 11, he asked for either a rifle or a bicycle for his birthday. She deemed the rifle too dangerous and the bike too expensive, and so he chose a guitar instead. The rest is history. Tell us about a special birthday gift from your youth.
My parents had a special pair of deer skin mocassins hand made for me when I was about 9. I treasured them.
6) Abraham Lincoln credited his stepmother, Sarah, for her lasting influence on his life, saying she ignited his love of reading and learning. Tell us about a woman -- mother, stepmother, grandmother, aunt, Godmother, teacher, neighbor -- who changed your life for the better.
Both of my grandmothers were good to me. That was a big influence.
7) Mother's Day is almost upon us. According to the National Restaurant Association, we like to eat out on this holiday, with revenue up more than 80% on Mother's Day weekend. When did you last dine at a restaurant? Was it a special occasion?
The last restaurant visit was January 11th. It was also the last time I left the house.
8) Candles are a big seller for Mother's Day, too. What's your favorite candle scent?
I love Balsam Pine and I also like Midsummer's Night by Yankee candles.
I first smelled the Midsummer at my massage therapists office years ago. She helped me more than all the doctors. She burned that Yankee Candle and it was also helpful in my healing.
9) Sam is celebrating Mother's Day with her mother's favorite, Hershey Bars. Would you prefer classic milk chocolate, dark chocolate or chocolate with almonds?
I suppose milk chocolate but I don't eat chocolate since it can give me a migraine. If you didn't know cheese, chocolate , wine or grapes, and Brewer's Yeast are foods that can trigger migraines.
Thanks for stopping by.

Wishing you a beautiful weekend and Happy Mothers Dya, Annie.
ReplyDeleteSorry about the migraines. The sterling rose sounds beautiful.
ReplyDeleteHappy Mother's Day, Annie!
ReplyDeleteYou haven't left the house since January? That's a long time. I hope you are ok. (And yes, Elvis looks a little puffy in that photo. I imagine he was starting to put on weight by then.)
ReplyDeleteI agree with Dew and you: Elvis is looking extra fluffy.
ReplyDeleteThat candle scent sounds familiar; I think I've had one in my house and it was lovely.
Happy Mom's Day!!
Long ago and far away , I was one of many who had a rose test garden for a major grower . They wanted to know how well the new ones performed before marketing them...cool gig ! My most favorite is the "Perfume Delight" tea rose...a lovely pink , with an old fashioned , damask rose scent...aaaahhhh...
