Good day friends and internet family.
It's Tuesday afternoon and I am so sleepy on this bright, sunny and chilly day on the coast. I can smell the cedars and the salt air today and those are my favorite days of all. On the coast the air is always clean and fresh and that does wonders except if you are as sleepy as I am this afternoon.. doggone it.
I am finishing this up late at night and its 39°F... my warm bed is waiting for me.
1. Besides Thanksgiving, something on your November calendar you're looking forward to?
It is my birthday and my youngest daughter's birthday.
Sometimes each of them can fall on Thanksgiving Day.
I don't celebrate birthdays but I always made a special meal and cake for kids. For myself, it's just another day.
In November, I look forward to the cold weather and the changing skies, the falling leaves and blustery winds. I look forward to the early dark evenings. I used to work catty-corner from my apartment and I loved the little walk home after work especially on rainy nights. It was dark by 4:30. Streets were wet and lit by passing cars and street lamps. The leaves on the pavement glistened and glowed in neon colors in the passing light.. Oh how I loved it.
2. Dictionary.com's word of the year is '6-7'. Huh?
Is it even a word??? I had to consult the internet to find out it's meaning because apparently I'm old and this particular slang is not part of my vocabulary. Is it part of yours?
Yes. Being at sixes and sevens has long been used and I've used it many times.
According to the article I read, it's a viral term, more of an inside joke with an unclear meaning driven by social media.
What do you think? I think it's a good choice as all the world is at sixes and sevens with confusion and distrust, anger and everyone is so touchy and irritable lately. So many feel at 6's and 7's as they struggle to find their way.
Dictionary. com says it's selection each year is a 'linguistic time capsule reflecting social trends and events, but they also admitted to being confused by '6-7'. Some say it means so-so and is sometimes accompanied by the up and down hand motion we associate with the phrase so-so.
What word do you think would have made a better choice? I think this choice was pretty good and will work until the world realizes we have one enemy and only one and that is evil.
The world is at 6s and 7s but we don't have to be!
3. What's a food, trend, activity, or thing people love but you think is just so-so?
Sushi. No thank you.
Hot or cold? Both. I like it hot and I like it cold with lemon ans good old cane sugar.
How do you like yours and at what time of day? Anytime of day is fine. As a child my grandmother had tea ready for me when I came home and of course I had tea to start my school days as well.
Do you like flavored teas or teas billed as calming, energizing, healing, etc? No. I do not like flavored teas and I am a purist. I like plain tea...Darjeeling, Ceylon, Orange Pekoe, Russian Caravan... I like those teas.
5. The November Hodgepodge has always included a weekly gratitude question. Here's the question for today-what are three things that make your heart sing?
- The secmt of balsam and cedar in our woods and the salty air.
- Autumn
- Homemade Apple Pie
6. Insert your own random thought here.
People are upset by the early darknes of Autumn and Winter. These early times are set by God himself, not by us and they are set that way for a purpose. The purposes of God are always for the ultimate good of mankind. So, when you are about to complain about the early setting of the sun, remember that this is all part of Gods plan for you and that we are to rejoice in it all.
From the rising of the sun to the going down of the same, the name of the Lord is worthy of praise.....Psalm 113

I love that smell near the coast, it always feels so fresh!
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday to you and your daughter for later in the month, it's mine too in a couple of weeks.
My girls love sushi but I can't see the attraction either!
Ohh! Yum to the apple pie!
I love the smell of sea air too. Lots of November birthdays in the Hodgepodge it seems. I hope yours is happy!. I haven't made an apple pie this year, but still want to do that. Maybe Thanksgiving? Enjoy your day!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday, Annie, and the same to your daughter! Let us roll with God's timing and not complain. Blessings!
ReplyDeleteI have just recently become aware of 6-7, doesn't make a lot of sense to me, but then in today's world there's a lot of things that don't make a bit of sense. :-( I just smile and go on my way.☺☺
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed the imagery you have created for us with the description of the scents and sounds and feel of your fall weather where you live. It sounds lovely. And when you think about it, the current easter standard time is the normal time, I guess you are right that it is the way God intended it to be. Daylight savings time is man's invention.Although I am not crazy about it getting dark so early, once I adjust to the time change (after about a week), I am okay. However, that being said, when we lived in Maine I had a much harder time with it because not only was it dark when we'd leave in the morning and dark when we'd come home in the afternoon, but it was SO cold! I really did struggle with seasonal "depression" of sorts, although I am not prone to depression, but I definitely was happier when we started having more daylight again. Happy early November birthday. Your day IS special, and you should be celebrated! (((HUGS)))
ReplyDeleteI , too , enjoy a good apple pie , but a truly flaky crust and a not-overly-sweetened filling is hard to find and elusive for me to make ...sigh...
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed your answers. Thank you for the reminder in your last thought! It's hard for me when it gets dark early. But a good reminder
