Young at Heart

Saturday is the crown jewel of the week. As the 7th day of the week, it marks a completion.... the Creator rested from all the work he had done.  I rest too, so my Saturday posts are written on Friday morning or early afternoon and this Friday afternoon is a bit gray but we are having a heat wave of 34F!  I am still iced in with a 3 foot wall of ice blocking my house. Nothing in, nothing out.  And as I am typing, a high wind warning appears on my screen

Its time for Saturday 9.... here we go

"Welcome to Saturday 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love memes, however, and here is today's meme! "

Saturday 9: You Make Me Feel So Young (1956)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) This morning, do you feel younger or older than your years?
I always feel younger than my hears by decades really.  My body is a mess, I am 95% disabled at last evaluation but, inside I feel like a little kid.

2) In this song, Frank Sinatra tells us that every time he sees his lover's grin, he's happy. What's something you can reliably count on to lift your spirits?
I like cute animal memes and the new AI series of little cartoon girls singing.

3) The lyrics mention hide-and-seek. What games did you play when you were young?
Candy Land, Old Maid Chutes and Ladders.

4) Frank Sinatra was a fan of Campbell's chicken and rice soup, believing it helped his throat feel better after an evening of performing. Is Campbell's soup in your kitchen right now?
Nope

5) Frank's favorite dessert was a slice of lemon ricotta torte. He believed every meal should include "a final flourish." Do you more often indulge in or skip dessert?
Usually skip but only because I have to.  If I didn't I would eat dessert all day long !

6) At Sinatra's home in Palm Springs, CA, you'd find a less sophisticated dessert. He always kept Entenmann's Crumb Cake on hand for his young granddaughters. Share a memory of your grandparents.
I lived with my paternal grandparents for the first bit of my life and my grandmother made me tea after school and my grandpa took me to watch the trains. Later I shared a bedroom with my maternal grandmother until I was 15.

7) In 1956, when this song was popular, Frank was tooling around Southern California in a blue Continental Mark II. That model was known for its interior of hand-stitched imported Scottish leather. 70 years later, Scottish leather is still used in luxury cars because it's both soft and durable and the production methods minimize environmental impact. If you could splurge on something right now, what would it be? A luxury
car, jewelry, travel, clothes, something else? (No responsible answers allowed!)
A whole new kitchen and all new flooring through the house.

8) Also in 1956, The Invasion of the Body Snatchers and Forbidden Planet were popular at the box office. Do you have a favorite sci-fi movie?
Forbidden Planet is a favorite .

9) Random question: What were you doing three hours ago?
Reading.

  1. Yes, it's funny how our bodies can feel so old, but inside we still are that same little kid we used to be. I think the older I get, the younger I seem to be inside. Games I played as a child, Hide and Seek, Red Rover, Freeze Tag, and inside games were Monopoly and Old Maid, and Clue. I was never a big Sci-Fi movie fan. Hubby likes "The Day the Earth Stood Still". Three hours ago I was fixing supper. We had hamburgers tonight and they were good. Oh, I hope you get your new kitchen and flooring one of these days. I'd like to redo one of our bathrooms into handicapped accessible before we really need it, because if we wait until then, it will be a big mess and we'll wish we had done it sooner. Also we need a ramp up to our door as we have about 6 steps to get up into our house and it's already difficult for us to bring in the groceries. No luxuries for us either...just the upcoming necessities that are too expensive for us to tackle, so I don't know if they will ever happen. Might be cheaper to sell this house and move to one that is already set for handicapped access. But who wants to move at our age????
Okay, take care my friend and stay nice and warm and cozy.

  2. I can't imagine being iced in. We don't know that cold here is so CA where it has been in the 80's the past few days. I want to get handrails for the shower and plan to look into it. I have to watch my sugars since I am borderline diabetic. I try to eat a high protein breakfast. I had lots of popcorn at the movies today. I posted Tuesday 4 on Tuesday in case you want to check it out.

  6. I actually love your answer for #7. I would rather spend a whole bunch of money and have a crew come in and fix up my current house and make it super nice. So many things we could upgrade. Great answer! Loved your answers! Have a nice weekend.
