Georgia is not on my Mind at all..

What a terrible, no good, very bad day I had today (Friday).     I woke up sick as can be with spasms in my back from shoulder to waist, chills, aching muscles, headache.   Even my teeth were aching.    No, no flu and no cold.    Sometimes you can get  a build up of poisons in the body  from eating clean and exercising  and
then not drinking enough water to clean out the piosons.   Then sleeping wrong exacerabtates it making muscles wrench and ache badly.  My head hurt a lot.   A lot of self massage , plenty of water, face yoga all helped.  But it will take a while for this to right itself.
If we throw in the low baromter and the Schumann reasonance... boy oh boy what a wild ride.

Saturday 9: Georgia on My Mind (1978)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) This lyrics refer to "an old sweet song." What old sweet song is a favorite of yours?
So many but here is one that means a lot since I live in a Summer Place, The Theme from A Summer Place.
The 2nd song is  an oldie from the 40s I think... There's a Chapter in my Life Called Mary..

2) Composer Hoagy Carmichael said he was inspired by saxophonist Frankie Trumbauer to write a song about Georgia. In those days, bands traveled by bus and Frankie enjoyed rolling through Georgia. Hoagy recalled that Frankie even volunteered the first two words, "Georgia, Georgia ..." If we were to organize a Saturday 9 bus trip, where would you recommend we go for lovely scenery?
There are so many places from Maine to California.  America is a beautiful place. Maine smells like pine.. the coast is spectacular.  Vermont, New Hampshire and Massachusetts are glorious in autumn.  Pennsylvania farms are lovely in summer.   Missouri is a cool place... take your pick.

3) This version of "Georgia on My Mind" was controversial before it was even recorded. Willie Nelson's label, Columbia, didn't see the point of their outlaw country star singing an old standard that was associated with Ray Charles and Ella Fitzgerald. Willie had the last laugh. This record was a hit and Willie won a Grammy. Tell us about a time when you were a success despite opposition.
In high school, we lost a few friends. One passed on in middle school as the result of a life long illness.  Nothing fancy in schools back then and the boys would carry his wheelchair up the stairs from floor to floor for classes.  He was a great kid.    I thought it would be great to include him in the high school yearbook because he would have graduated with us had he lived.  I also knew it would do his parents hearts good to know he was not forgotten.
The rest of the yearbook committee did not want to include him and I had to fight for it but in the end I won and he was included.  When the book was published one of the girls who most opposed him being in  the yearbook quickly picked up a copy and ran to his parents to present them with a copy and take credit for something she had opposed.  It's okay, all I wanted was him in the yearbook and I got that accomplished.

4) While it's at odds with his "outlaw" image, Willie was a popular and active high school student. He played three sports and was a member of Future Farmers of America. What school activities did you participate in during your teen years?
Everything really. I was into everything: Acapella, girls athletic association,  clubs, editor in chief of the newspaper, managing editor of the radio, co editor of the yearbook, etc.
5) Willie once worked as a tree trimmer, so clearly he didn't suffer from acrophobia. How about you?   Do you have a fear of heights?
I am not fond of being high up much at all so I avoid heights.

6) He wrote the lyrics to one of his biggest hits, "On the Road Again," during a flight, using the airplane barf bag as scrap paper. That was back in 1980. In 2025, do you handwrite onto note paper, or do you make all your "notes to self" digitally?
I hand write notes.  I will lose them if they are dignital.  I don't use my computer or phone for things like that.

7) In 1978, when Willie was singing "Georgia on My Mind," audiences were flocking to see the movie Grease. What's your favorite song from Grease?
I don't have one and never bothered to see the movie.. just not my kind of thing.

8) Also in 1978, Karina Smirnoff was born. After spending her early years in the Ukraine, she came to America and found success on Dancing with the Stars. Are you a DWTS fan?
No.  I am not a fan of the show.

9) Random question: Do you ever carry a backpack?
No, I don't carry a backpack.  I have a hard enough time charrying a purse.  I don't like being bogged down too much.

Tomorrow is Sunday Stealing and Tuesday 4 goes up too.

  2. Oh, that sounds so painful. I am sorry you woke up in such pain. I do pray that it has subsided today and that you will begin to feel better again. I love the song "Georgia", and we often sing it because we love parts of Georgia, mostly the mountains. It's a beautiful, cooler place that isn't so terribly far from us here in hot, sultry Florida. It's really beautiful in the fall, much like New England, but maybe not quite as vibrant. I love what you did to remember the boy from your class in your yearbook. I am sure his parents were very pleased to have that momento. Apparently the girl who opposed it finally saw the light and realized it was a good idea afterall, so even if she took credit for it wrongly, perhaps it was something that changed her internally for the good. You set the right example and people were blessed. Oh, I do love the song "Theme from a Summer Place." You are blessed to live in such a place!! Again, I hope you are feeling better today. Be kind to yourself and just rest.

  4. So sorry to hear you've had such a bout with pain, Annie, and I do hope you're feeling better now. It's no fun getting older, is it? I do love the song, "Georgia on my Mind" as we live in the state. I like Willie, too. Blessings!

The Pine Pollen season has begun...all is coated with a thick coat of the chartreuse stuff !
That pollen can't be doing you much good , either ! Take care , you are wrapped in the prayers of those who love you !
