Friday Photos.

Another Friday. It seems the weeks are flying by and spring is almost here.  I hear more and more birds everyday, so they are coming home from their winter vacation.

I am joining in for skywatch friday this week too.

Here are my photos for this week.. some new, some old.

I love the salt marsh near me... so much to see there.

This photo was taken by the Famous Anonymous.  A beautiful sunset on the ocean.

The trail behind my house is littered with sandy bottom creeks that run to the bay a few blocks down.

Moving.. Tuesday 4

Welcome to Tuesday 4 kept up in memory of our friend Toni Taddeo who began it several years ago.  She would be so pleased to see people keeping up with it!

Let's talk about moving today.

1. How far away are you from where you grew up?  Google maps says  63.9 miles  south of my hometown. It is a 1 hour and 7 minute drive north of me.  I grew up  a 30 minute drive outside New York City and even closer by boat. The 30 minutes is because of traffic.

2. Families sometimes move all over the country.Do you feel that a family should try to stay close together?

Yes, a family should try to stay together if possible. I am not sure a job is a good reason to leave a place. But close family ties should always have priority.

3. How many times have you moved in your life and would you like to share when and where you moved?

Not counting changing houses in the same town or area,  I have made 3 major moves...

From  NJ to Ohio for university..next major move was  to Utah.. then back to New Jersey

4. What brought you to where you are living now and are you happy there?

I ran away from a bad situation.  Am I happy here? Not completely.. but my family is here and I have learned long ago to bloom where I am planted. Its no joke to me.   I have lost everything I had 3 times in my life and I mean everything.

I have learned to appreciate what God puts in front of me from weather to homes to places to people.   I sing the praises of the winter storms, and the summer heat. I love being so close to the ocean.. when I lived in Utah, I loved the mountains and the desert and the 8 feet of snow.. I loved southern Ohio when I was there.. I would learn to love any place God plants me!

Love in a Candy Box

Her e is a 2nd post for February 14th....Sunday Stealing is right below it.

I have posted this many times before. I think it is appropriate to post this month as it is the anniversary of my father's passing, may he rest in peace, and especially on St. Valentine's Day as it is a day of love and chocolates.
  My father was a romantic.

He loved my mother  and he loved her mother, who lived with us most of my life, very much also. He showed such a great deal of respect for her and for his own parents and as my maternal Grandmother said.."He is as good to me as many sons".

My father was head chemist and vice president of a chemical company here in New Jersey who, for many reasons, later opened a soda fountain/ice cream shop that eventually became a  stationary store in a tiny town, selling stationary to big business and selling cards and school supplies from the main store.

He took a beating money wise later on from malls and the big stationary chain stores.
But he was honest to a fault and ever the romantic who learned constantly.  You never saw him without a scholarly work in his hands.

He would bring home boxes of candy to my mother and grandmother sometimes after work as a treat, one I would share in. And, since the store sold fancy Valentine boxes of candy, he brought those home as well on Valentine's Day each year.

Once, I remember him walking home on a bitterly cold Valentine's day without his brand new coat because he had given it to a poor man in town whose coat was in very bad shape.
"Its only a block walk. It's not that cold out" he said standing there in his shirt sleeves.
A candy box was  tucked under his arm for Mother that night .
He sat down to dinner as if nothing out of the ordinary had happened.
For him this was not out of the ordinary at all.  It was what he did.
He wore his old one from then on. It was just as good he said.

Upstairs, in my grandmothers bedroom, inside the closet on a shelf, were  old candy boxes my father had brought home over the years.  They were filled with her crochet work (she made fillet crochet that was so beautiful ), news clippings of her friends deaths, births of grandchildren, marriages,  cards from holidays, mementos and tiny souvenirs of times past. One was used to house her "good gloves" and "my good scarves".

I once asked her why she saved all those boxes.

"Oh, " she said, "its a shame to waste things".

"Yes", I said, "but you could fit this all in one or two hat boxes".

She looked at me with those pastel gray eyes , now half blind and said , "But there is so much love in these boxes".

Valentines Day.. questions.

1. What is the meaning of Valentine’s Day in your country/area? What happens on this day?
It is a saint's feast day. People celebrate in their own way I suppose/ If you are Catholic go to mass 🙂
2. Is Valentine’s Day more for men or women? Explain your answer.
It is for anyone. Its about a man who did good for others.
3. Do you have any special plans for Valentine’s Day? What will you do?
No plans at all.
4. Which traditional gift would you rather receive: chocolates, flowers, or a card with a personal message?
I don't eat chocolate..gives me a headache, I have rarely gotten flowers (except from the Famous Anonymous last week.. I was so excited!!) so I guess personal message would be the best.
5. Is Valentine’s Day only about romantic love? Or is it a good occasion to celebrate friendship as well?
It is about romantic love not friendship. St Valentine paid for the weddings and dowries of poor girls back in a time when it was extremely important to do so.
6. Do you like romantic movies? What is your favorite romantic movie?
Yes, I do like romantic movies!

My favorite romantic movie is You've Got Mail.
7. Have you ever received a Valentine’s Day card or gift from a secret admirer? How did it make you feel?
No I never have. If I did receive one I wouldmost likely feel it was someone pulling prank.
8. Is Valentine’s Day the most romantic day of the year? If not, what day is?
It never was for me..would have been nice if it were, but nope. Never had romantic men in my life.
9. What is the most romantic thing you have done for another person?
Nothing I wish to share with anyone.
10. Valentine’s Day is promoted by companies whose only interest is making money. Discuss whether you agree or disagree. Probably but that shouldnt get in the way of having a nice time. It is what you make of it.
11. Describe your perfect Valentine’s Day date.
I never had a Valentine's Day date but maybe just being alone with somoene. Oh.. I did get pregnant with my daughter on Valentine's Day. I guess that was a date that will live in infamy LOL.
12. How should a single person spend Valentine’s Day? What do you suggest? Pray for a good companion in life.
13. Do you enjoy playing cupid? Do you try to introduce people in the hope they will make a love match?
I have set up a few couples actually who are happily married.
14. Some restaurants charge higher prices on Valentine’s Day. Are you willing to pay more to dine out on this day?
I think it would be nicer to stay home.
15. Is a romantic gesture more powerful on Valentine’s Day or on another day of the year?
It might be, depending on what it is. But anytime is a powerful gesture as long as it is true, sincere and heartfelt and meaningful.

(note: I have no clue where this signature came from...anyone know?)

Valentine's Day

Welcome to Tuesday 4. I am sure  Toni would be so pleased you are here.

Let's talk about St. Valentine's Day.

1. St Valentine paid for the weddings of poor girls. Today weddings can cost a fortune. What do you think about wedding expenses?

It seems that lately wedding receptions take on too much importance and get too extravagant. The marriage takes a back seat in a way.    I wonder given all the hype if they marry for family and love or for the fun of the day.  I am also not pleased with the immodestly of the wedding gowns today.

2. Do you or did you send Valentines to people? As a kid in school everyone gave them out to the whole class.

3. Do you find Valentine's day to be romantic? Well it isn't for me since no one ever celebrated it with me or sent me a card etc. and I don't have any one who loves me.

4. Do you do anything special for Valentine's Day with partners or family?  No I don't. My father did though and I will post my annual Valentine's day post here in the coming days.

Happy Valentine's Day folks.

Sunday....

Hey friends.. another week has begun. Colder weather and snow are in the forecast for us here on the very edge of the United States. What is it like where you are?

Let's do some Sunday Stealing, okay? Miscellaneous Questions...

1.Can you eat with chopsticks?
Never tried. My kids can...  but really I don't see a real purpose to t eating that way as it is primitive.

2.Could you tell real money from counterfeit?    Not unless it was an awful  bad counterfeiting job.

3.What do you think about school uniforms?    Probably a good idea over all.

4.What ancient civilization would you most like to visit? None of them. I have studied them all and from ancient Egypt to modern day, all empires and "civilizations" are criminal enterprises.. Yes.. all of them and all means all my friends. If anyone is curious about this, I will gladly do a post on it.

5.What would make a great new Crayola color?    Blonde ... several shades from strawberry to ash.

6.If an art project is created with the intent of getting rich and famous, does that cast doubt over its significance as a work of art?
Of course not!!  . Every job is done for the purpose of being paid for it. "You shall not muzzle the ox that treads the corn" friends.     Now if the art is poor or ridiculous, thats your personal opinion and it may or may not be shared by others. People like all manner of things.  I doubt that Michelangelo produced art so he could be poverty stricken and totally unknown!!

7.What do you get in trouble for the most? Now or as a kid?  I suppose it was always talking too much.

8. Do you blow your nose in public? I try not to. If I have no choice I try to be very discrete. Its best to leave the room though.

9.If all the nations in the world are in debt, where did all the money go? Into politicians pockets. Its all about  money laundering.. thats what foreign aid actually is : money laundering and why no one gets any help from the hand outs. After pouring trillions into India and Africa they are still suffering.. why? It was a scam for the Banksters and nations to make money off their suffering and launder their corrupt money.

We base our economies on nothing. Only hard currency works.  A switch to a digital economy(like bit coin) will be terrible and you will see big brother in spades with social credit scores that will own you.  Resist!

10.Is it as easy to make you happy now as it was when you were a child? Yes pretty much.

11.Who knows more...you, or your parents?  Me.. my parents passed away. Of course they knew more while alive and even if I could bring them back, they know things of the past better than I would and would have more experience.

12.What instrument would you like to be famous for playing?    My piano

13.Would you have sex with a stranger for one million dollars?   That is none of your business .. now go to your room.

14.Are you completely in control of your body?       No. No one is.

15.What is the coolest web site you know of?   Duh.. my blog!! Sheesh, you have to ask?

Tuesday 4 is up... I hope you will join in with us. This week is about Valentine's Day.
