Trying to get back into the swing of blogging/posting. It isn't easy right now as other things are taking my time. The spring holy days are once again coming around as well and a new year has begun.
I'm joining in with Saturday 9 today.
Saturday 9: Fooled by a Feeling (1979)
Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.
Chosen by Sam because next week is April Fool's Day.
1) Some believe that the practice of playing tricks on one another on April 1 dates back to the 14th century because it's mentioned in Chaucer's The Canterbury Tales. Geoffrey Chaucer is considered one of England's greatest poets. From memory, quote a bit of poetry for us. (It doesn't have to be English, or great.)We had to memorize a lot of poetry and Shakespeare's soliloquies in high school.
This is the forest primeval. The murmuring pines and the hemlocks
bearded with moss, and in garments green, indistinct in the twilight,
Stand like Druids of eld, with voices sad and prophetic,
Stand like harpers hoar, with beards that rest on their bosoms.
Loud from its rocky caverns, the deep-voiced neighboring ocean
Speaks, and in accents disconsolate answers the wail of the forest.
from "Evangeline" by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
2) When Crazy Sam was a little girl, her mother would prank her on April Fool's Day by slipping a rubber worm or plastic spider in her lunch box. Did you/do you carry a lunchbox, either as a student or an adult?
The only time I carried one was to work as an adult and to swimming day camp as a girl scout.
3) In 1998, Burger King got into the April Fool's Day fun by promoting a special "Left Handed Whopper," supposedly perfectly designed for a leftie to hold. Describe your perfect burger.
I like a well done hamburger with fried mushrooms, caramelized onions and swiss cheese but never anything from fast food.
4) In this week's song, Barbara Mandrell sings that she followed her heart into her lover's arms. Are you more often led by your heart or head?
I am hoping it to be 50/50 but I could be wrong there.
5) She knows now she was wrong for believing her man loved her. When did you recently admit you were wrong?
I was wrong in also believing I was loved. It was never true. I am worried about being taken in again.
6) Barbara Mandrell recalls being able to read music before she could read words. Can you read sheet music?
Yes I can.
7) Barbara had her own TV variety show in the 1980s and, in the 90s, acted on the daytime drama, Sunset Beach. The soap opera's producer, Aaron Spelling, was a huge fan of Barbara's and was thrilled to finally meet and work with her. Tell us about someone you really enjoyed working with, and why.
I never worked with anyone that I really enjoyed working with. There were people who were okay but that is about all. I was always glad to go home.
8) In 1979, when this song was released, a top-of-the-line Sony Walkman sold for $150 (approx. $500 in today's dollars). Did you have a portable cassette player back in the day?
No. I saw no reason for having one. I don't like noise everywhere I go.
9) Random question: What's the first thing you thought of when you woke up this morning?
The bathroom.....
Great answer for #9!
ReplyDelete#4 - I hope I'm mostly lead by my head rather than a heart. Our feelings will lie to us. Almost every time.
ReplyDelete#7 - I agree there. I thought maybe there was something wrong with me 'cause my life isn't like the sit-com's. *lol* Now I know it's the sit-com's that aren't accurate. We're all just work mates, not friends.
#9 - Me too.
I prayed for you and the sick relative today. Hope he/she is better soon and you're pacing yourself. xx
#9, exactly!!!! And a couple of times during the night as well!!! Great answers. I did have a walkman once so I could listen to music when we traveled with the kids and I needed some "peace" from the noise in the back seat. LOL. Wonderful poetry memorization. I tried to quote Robert Louis Stevenson's "the Swing" today and remembered most of it. I thought I was doing good, and then I see what you wrote above. However, I am older than you and my memory is more sketchy. Plus I never was very good at memorizing poetry. I just don't seem to have the knack for it. Have a blessed and good weekend. Praying for your family member who is ill, and for you as you help care for him or her.
ReplyDelete#9 - agree 100%! Have a great Saturday!
ReplyDeletePraying for your relative.
ReplyDeleteGlad you can join in for Saturday 9.
Seems there are several that have the same answer on #9.
Have a nice Saturday.

As for your thought...you know to go with your gut feeling...keeping in prayer. smiles
ReplyDeleteWe grilled hamburgers last night and I made french fries...all from scratch. I haven't eaten fast food in so long, I'm sure it would taste very fake. Thanks for sharing! Hugs!
ReplyDeleteI vaguely remember... "Out, out, brief candle... Then something in between and ending with... Told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, Signifying nothing."
ReplyDeleteLongfellow was never one of my favorites, but that is an excellent bit of poetry
ReplyDeleteThe bathroom...LOL!! That goes on all night for me. Loved your answers! Have a nice weekend. I hope your family member gets better soon.

We all get taken in with love at times. I thought I was pretty good at reading and understanding people, but when my current wife announced that she was leaving I was gobsmacked. She left a year ago, and it was so tough because of the pandemic. But it was the right move. I knew she loved me, but now i realized that she wasn't IN love with me...
ReplyDelete:( hard to take sometimes. I know. Wishing you the best.
DeletePraying for your relative, and also for you Anne. I am trying to get my blog back up too. I also have gotten away from it, for a long time!
ReplyDeleteI forgot my url....http://myhomeandheart.blogspot.com
DeleteNice post. I liked your description of the perfect hamburger.
ReplyDeleteCoisas de Feltro
My favorite burger is hand-formed (no pressed out circles , please !), a bit crusty at the edges , medium-cooked and juicy , with melted cheddar cheese , lettuce and tomato , perfectly fried potatoes - crunchy on the outside (without being greasy !) and tender on the inside ...not a fan of most coleslaw (usually too sweet and too much liquid) ...followed by a shore dessert - a chocolate soft-serve ice cream cone rolled in chocolate sprinkles...
ReplyDeleteaaaaahhhhh...
Wishing you peace and joy , my friend !
P.S. _
As to love , my experience is that we are too soon old and too late smart...sigh...
