Saturday Questions

Welcome to Saturday 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a
theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love memes, however, and here is today's meme!
Blue Collar Man (1978)
Unfamiliar with this week's tune?      Hear it    here.

1) In this week's song, we hear a job equated with security. Tell us something that gives you a sense of security.
God is first,  Practicing good sense ways.

2) Lead singer Tommy Shaw hopes someone will make him an offer he can't refuse. That's a reference to a famous movie quote. Without looking it up, can you name the film?

The Godfather

3) Shaw recalls that this song was inspired by a friend of his, a blue collar worker who had been laid off and was frustrated by the process of job hunting. His friend wanted to work, not fill out forms and job applications and wait days for a response! Do you quickly become impatient?
Only with willing ignorant people .

4) The name "Styx" wasn't the top choice of anyone in the band. As founding member Denis DeYoung recalled, "It was the only name none of us hated." Tell us about a recent compromise you made (which TV show to watch, toppings on your pizza, etc.).
I compromised with a friend on watching  'American Werewolf in London'.  I didn't like it at all.

5) Labor Day was introduced to celebrate the achievements of the American worker. How many different employers have you had?
Not many really maybe 4 or so since age 14.

6) The first Waffle House was opened on Labor Day, 1955. What's your preference: waffles or pancakes?
I like them both.

7) Labor Day mattress sales are a big business. Experts tells us we can expect to spend $1,000 for a good-quality queen-sized mattress. Will you be buying a new one -- or perhaps making another big ticket purchase for your home -- before year end?
I bought one last autumn.

8) Will you be attending a Labor Day picnic or barbecue?
Not that I know of.     Since my father passed away none of my family bother much with barbeques sadly.

9) Labor Day is the unofficial start of fall. Have you had any pumpkin spice yet?
No, I will have to get to TJ Maxx and Home Goods to buy some coffees.

  1. What kind of Coffee do you get there. I have never bought coffee at either one of those stores. Is it cheaper than the markets?

  2. Its much cheaper.. usually between 4.99 to 6.-99. They have Kahlua coffee, Grande Cafe.. Starbucks and many other brands all of which were very nice when I bought them. They also have Joffrey coffee and Moose Munch. Many are imported or gourmet coffees but they sell tons of them and I like them a lot.

  3. I don't actually grill cause it is just me and my guy but we still cook outside on a griddle and such... I found a grill to be too much work

    Have a great weekend 😀

  6. A lot of traditions kind of fell apart after my dad passed, too. I guess in some cases the men are the keepers of the traditions. I miss a lot of the things he used to insist we do.

  8. We haven't had a family get together in a very long time. Between people having Covid and work, there seems to be no time when we're all free at once.

  10. I love Marshalls too for the flavored coffees. I agree, Home Goods and TJ Maxx are nice too, smiles. It will have to wait until we get our own home--coffee is like outlawed in this house---a certain other housemate husband can't stand the smell of it. No bbq here either.

  11. I did buy a package of, Oreo Pumpkin Spice cookies...they weren't very good. But, I'm still looking for the perfect candle...TJ Maxx might be a good place for that! We are going to my daughters for, Labor Day, I think we'll order pizza, it's way to hot to cook inside or even bbq. I'm going to make homemade peach and raspberry ice cream ;0) Happy Labor Day...the beginning of Autumn!
