September

Not a drop of rain in sight for southern New Jersey and we need it badly.  Northern NJ is getting a ton but here by the coast we are dry as a bone.  So many of my shrubs and trees are dried out.     Well, perhaps a few stray drops will visit us.
Leaves on some of my Swamp Maples out back are turning red and some leaves on the Wisteria and the Green Ash tree are yellowing.  Autumn is coming soon.    Autumn officially begins on the Autumnal Equinox on the 21st

Hello and welcome back to Toni Taddeo's Tuesday 4.   We are so glad you have you join in.

The "Ber" months have begun: September, October, November and December.   Let's talk about  September okay?

1. When you were in school or university, did you look forward to returning? Why or why not?   I did and I didn't.   I knew I would miss the freedom of summer but I did like learning and being with friends.  I have always loved the autumn season and it's holidays too.

2. September has  Labor Day, which, for many is the signal of summer's end and fall's grand entrance.  Do you celebrate Labor Day in any way or is it just a day off for you?
When my father was alive we always had barbeques on  every holiday like Labor Day.  I miss that. My kids just don't seem to care much at all and it disappoints me a lot. Sometimes my friend and I do things.

3. September's birthstone is the Sapphire which is 2nd only to a diamond in hardness. (Ruby is a red sapphire by the way) It comes in many colors.  Do you know your birthstone and do you like it?

 My birthstone is Turquoise .
Every month has both a stone and then  a gem stone.    My gemstone is Topaz which can be many different colors.

4. September's birth flower is the Astor. What is yours ?

My birth flower is Chrysanthemum.    I love.. truly love football mums.   Our high school used to sell them at Thanksgiving to make money.   They were so beautiful, big and full.  They came is so many wonderful colors but I loved the orange ones with the dark maroon edges on them.. just spectacular I think.  Second favorite were white or yellow.   I'd love to find one for Thanksgiving this year.

The night before Thanksgiving my town had a huge bonfire for the game the next day.  The pile of wood would exceed 20 ft or more.    What fun that was.   The next day was my town vs our rival next door town and everyone went.  It was great to bundle up in the stadium and cheer for our team.

Thanks for stopping by and if you joined in with Tuesday 4.. thank you for that as well.    Come again.

  3. I would love to experience a true autumn season. It is so hot over here and even our grass is burning since we have to cut back on water. I bet the bon fires were fun!
