Books to Film

  Once again it is time for Toni Taddeo's Tuesday 4.  Did Toni invent it? Who knows. I don't recall but she kept it and other memes going that helped make blogging fun and interesting. She sure provided some subject to blog about when you had trouble finding things to post about.   I think she'd be pleased to see it continue.   I miss my daily interaction with her very much.    

Temps here still low and autumn-like. Just beautiful. Rain due on Thursday and we need more though the storm of last week dumped 12 inches on us.  Bring it on! AccuWeather tells me that the arthritis level on Thursday will be 9 to 10. The max. Not great but hey, you take the good with the bad and enjoy life as much as you can while you can.  The late Adele Davis who was a great internationally known nutritionist, said that all the arthritis patients had bitterness in common.  Bitterness, the bible says, rots the bones but laughter and good attitude bring health to the bones.

This graphic which is titled books to film inspired today's questions.   I thought perhaps the topic of books turned into films might be of interest. I hope you agree.

Here we go:

1. What book turned into a film did you enjoy?

One is "Gone With the Wind" which in book form was a bit cumbersome and chock full of extra detail   I liked that the film got to the point.     I disliked how people misread and misunderstood Scarlet.  She was a hero really. She was a fighter and a defender.  I 

   quite liked that character.  She was surrounded by weak people.  Even Rhett was a huge disappointment.   When Bonnie died, he cut Scarlet off and focused on his own grief.   90some percent of marriages in which a child dies end in divorce if one does not support the other.  He locked himself away as if he only loved the child.  It was selfish and cruel.  Then he wondered by Scarlet was upset with him.   He looked down an her for what she did to save the plantation that supported and housed so many.  She was downright heroic in that sense.  And, like many women, she did what she had to do to survive in a man's world.</Rant>

2. Did you ever find the film version of a book to be better than the book or was the book better than the film and which book was it.

I think that Gone with the Wind trumped the book.  I have not read Lord of the Rings or the Harry Potter series so I don't know.  I do know that they TV versions of Miss Marple in many cases was more fun than the novels.

3. If you could decide what book should be a movie, which would it be and who would you get to play the main characters?    So many books have already been turned into movies that it is difficult to think of any.  I think many of the Spenser series of books by Robert Parker would make wonderful movies.   His Jesse Stone movies on TV never went on to finish. It starred Tom Selleck as Jesse and was wonderful.    I used to love Spenser of Hire with the late Robert Urich.  Hollywood is not much into stories anymore.  They seem to have abandoned them for high tech  effects with low human participation.

4. Have you watched a movie and then had to go read the book or has the opposite occurred and influenced you to see the movie?  Yes, that is how it was with Gone With the Wind.  On the other hand, it was the TV show of Jesse Stone and Spenser for Hire that got me to read the books!
