Fall Traditions & Memories.. a Tuesday 4 meme

Welcome to another Tuesday 4 a fun meme started by Toni Taddeo.

It is Halloween , all Hallows Eve and tomorrow is All Saint's Day. Originally these days were to remember the deaths of Christian martyrs but things have certainly changed and the dark, the scary and remnant of Samhain (So-Win) have been introduced.

 1.  What is your opinion of Halloween?

I am tired of good holidays being taken over by darkness.   Kids just want to have fun.

2.  Memories are important. Some of them are seasonal good times.  What fall memories and traditions can you share with us?

Leaf piles that you could jump into... those I always got poked by sticks in the pile.

The huge Thanksgiving game bon fire at the high school the night before the big game.

Selling football Mum corsages for the holiday to raise money for our school.  I LOVE football mums!

Hikes through the Watchung mountains here and seeing the gorgeous leaves.

Walking home from school/work later  on crisp rainy evenings where wet leaves glistened along the sidewalks.
Company on Thanksgiving Day for dinner! The more the merrier.

Pumpkin, apple and Buttermilk pies!

3. Stews, soups and chili dishes warm the tummy on chilly fall days. Have you a good recipe to share for a good fall dish?    Yes....Here's a recipe from my Rock and Roll Cafe Recipe Blog....

Chilly Weather Veggie Soup

Vegetable Soup:
1 can of garbanzo or red kidney beans (rienzi brand are low low sodium)
8 sliced carrots
2 large Vidalia or Sweet Yellow Onions, chopped up
4 large celery ribs chopped
2-3 cups of chopped green cabbage
2 cups of chopped green beans
2 cups of peas
1 cup of sweet corn
1 big cans of Italian tomatoes.. chop them up.
Chicken or Beef broth to make the liquid part of the soup but about 4 to 6 cups worth.
6 to 8 baby potatoes cut into halves or you can also add some cooked pasta  instead of the potatoes.for a very filling meal.
1 bay leaf, some pepper, some dried basil.
1 tsp of thyme and 1 tsp marjoram though you won't miss them if you don't add them.
If you like add a big beef bone for more nurition and flavor or add a pound of cut up beef.

Everything into a big pot and cook on medium heat until done.
That's all there is to it.
Adjust the heat to keep it from burning and stir often. Add further seasoning to your tastes.

4. Fall is football season. Are you a fan of any teams? Do you watch games?

Sometimes I turn them on and let them play.  The sound reminds me of the past when I was home with my family... long ago but not so far away.
