Food and Health.

Tuesday...  The week is well underway.   The new shower came today. Plumber coming Wednesday. Number  2 son putting in new ceiling on weekend.  It's been a few weeks now without a shower.. washing hair in kitchen sink and sponge baths. Not a big deal. Millions have no bathrooms at all. You must always look at things this way.  My kids asked what I would do for a few days without a toilet.. I said "there are bushes in the woods behind the house."   Well, it didn't take days.    She was worried about the subfloor but it was not as bad as we first thought.  The toilet was leaning and falling through the floor but, she was able to replace the sub floor for toilet and shower in one morning and replace the toilet by evening!  No bushes were harmed in the repair of this bathroom.   I can't believe I am going to have a  normal real bathroom like everyone else.
So.. now to tally up:  I replaced the entire roof on the house all of which was rotted out.
Bathroom under way.. need to replace kitchen counters and rusted out sink.
Need new ceilings from the water damage in most rooms.
Need new floors through out most of the house.    Little by little with God's help and great family.
Here on the seashore we got no snow just rain.   Another storm is on the way promising snow but, here out in the sea (we are a peninsula) we get the weather of Virginia and Maryland and are different.

Jan 7th, Orthodox Christmas was the Little's 16th birthday..
Welcome to Toni Taddeo's Tuesday 4....

How we eat, drink and exercise are important to our health. Let's talk about it.

1. Do you believe you eat a healthy diet and what makes it healthy?

I believe in a well balanced approach to food.. no extremes. No leaving out essential carbs or meats. All things in moderation.

2. What sort of drinks do you have with meals or between meals. Does it include enough water?

I drink water with most meals or a huge glass of whole milk ,which I love icy cold!   I have one cup of

coffee or tea in the morning and maybe in the evening.  I am not addicted to caffeine so I don't "need" coffee or tea. I don't think I do drink enough water.

3. Do you enjoy snacks throughout the day and what kind do you enjoy?

If I want snacks I choose no salt potato chips or carrots and celery sticks.

I keep a big bag of Doritos  and Entenmann's Brownies for the girls to snack on.

4. How do you make sure you get enough vitamins and minerals in your diet?

I take some supplements:  B, C, D, Magnesium and I eat lots of potassium rich foods like beans, and whole milk. Orange juice is NOT potassium rich by the way with only 172mg) Far more in a glass of milk(380 in one cup and I drink several cups daily) or a cup of beans (354mg per cup).  If beans give you gas it is because you don't eat enough cleansing foods and your gut health is  bad.

The solution:  Beans, Beans, the Magical “Fruit”: The More You Eat the Less You Toot!

Happy Eastern Orthodox Christmas friends!!   Why Jan? Well the old calendar was the Julian not the Gregorian.

  3. The house reno is so exciting!!! I am SO happy for you! Praise God for His tender mercies and big hugs for all those helping you. That's wonderful.
I love, love, love ice cold whole milk but am very lactose intolerant even with taking the lactose intolerant pills. BUMMER! So, I drink lots of our ice cold well water, Orange seasoned iced or hot tea, and New England coffee throughout the day.
It is super windy here today. I'm praying that the storm quiets down for all of us in it's path.
    Blessings. xx

  5. Hi Annie, I agree with you on a well balanced diet. I like milk and milk products, but I get 2% milk. I also have to get lactose free milk. I think it is awesome that you are getting all that work done to you house! Will you post before and after pictues?

  6. Your diet sounds pretty healthy and you are certainly more disciplined than I am where snacks are concerned. I keep working on it. You really have a lot of major repairs to the house. I remember you mentioning a few times that you wanted to renovate. I'm so glad to hear your family is able to help you with these big jobs.
