Nothing Can Stop Me Now

Hi friends and internet family.  I hope you are all doing well.
Rain is dominating the weather here on the coast and it is very welcome.   Very foggy this Friday morning too.

Well, its Friday morning and time to do the Saturday 9 for this week:

"Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other
participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love memes, however, and here is today's meme!"

Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now (1987)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) In this song, Gracie Slick challenges, "Let them say we're crazy!" Tell us about something you're glad you did, even though your friends or family may have advised you against it.
I really can't think of anything.  I can think of more things I did that I should not have done.

2) Slick is the lead singer of Jefferson Starship. This band got its start in 1965 as Jefferson Airplane but updated their name in 1974. Part of their reasoning was that by the 1970s, airplane travel was commonplace. In 2023, an estimated 820 million Americans flew domestically. When was your most recent flight? When is your next one?   My last flight was 1980 something.  With the new Draconian travel garbage I don't want to fly.  The Constitution demands no restriction on travel  for citizens within the United States.   I am sick of the trampling of rights in this nation.
By the way, there are no real restrictions on the private jets of the rich and famous at all.  What does that tell you?    Also in all these years they have tested the program and never once did they catch any gun or anything thoughvery many made their way through onto planes.

3) Songwriter Albert Hammond said the song was inspired by his divorce. After years of legal wrangling, he was finally free to marry his long-time, long-suffering girlfriend. They're still married today. What is something you waited a long time for? Was it worth the wait?
I won't say but I will say it was worth the wait.

Morning tea
4) Albert Hammond is perhaps best known as the one-hit wonder who sang, "It Never Rains in Southern California." Is rain expected where you are today?
Yes. It's been raining now for a couple of days and helping finally end the Jones Road fire which has burned for a couple of weeks.
The heat still comes on in the evening and early morning but supposedly temperatures are going to rise now.

5) He co-wrote the song with Diane Warren. In January, she lost her home to the Los Angeles fires. When a friend is confronted by heartache or tragedy, what can you say or do for them? What shouldn't you say or do?

Tell them you are sorry and  offer to be there for them and then do that.
Don't offer advice unless asked and don't say things you think will help but rarely do.
6) "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now" was the love theme to the romantic fantasy Mannequin. In that movie, a department store mannequin comes to life and falls for a struggling artist. While it was a moderate success at the box office, the gritty Vietnam drama Platoon was a much bigger hit. When you sit down to watch a movie, what genre would you prefer (fantasy, romance, comedy, drama, etc.)?
I like a lot of different ones including mystery, comedy and drama, romance... I like them all.  I do not like horror in any form.

7) In 1987, when this song was popular, Aretha Franklin became the first woman inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Aretha was proud of her Detroit roots. Have you been to Michigan? If yes, where did you go?
No.  Never been to MIchigan. Probably never going to go.

8) In 1987, the Chevy Corvette made news by adding a low tire pressure light to its dashboard. When you're driving and a yellow warning light comes on, do you handle the issue promptly? Or is it something you'll get to when you get around to it?
It depends on the situation.  Some demand immediate action and some don't.

9) Random question: A magic mirror reflects your appearance five years from today. Would you look at it?
No, I would not look at it.  I don't look much now and never have.   I hate the looks obsession of the world.
I also think the Pamela Anderson
kurfluffle indicated a real ugly fixation with looks in the world today.
She looked lovely for the Met Gala.. light makeup, no heavy eye makeup at all and the Audrey Hepburn/Mamie Eisenhower bang look.  She wore a heavily gen encrusted gown on her dynamite figure.   Hoorah for looking real but the papers called her "dowdy".  Nothing dowdy about real women at all.

Sunday is Sunday Stealing and I will be posting the next Tuesday 4 which I sure hope people will join in doing.

  1. Your view on the Constitution is … interesting. But I do agree that the TSA over regulates. My then-15-year- old daughter had to throw away a full can of hairspray that she accidentally left in her carry on bag when flying home firmó a dance competition. Ugh.

  2. Your reflections on this Saturday 9 post show a grounded and thoughtful spirit, even when faced with challenges like travel frustrations or difficult times. It’s clear you meet life with honesty and resilience, which is inspiring. I just shared a new travel post. I am excited for you to read it. Thank you. Happy weekend.

  4. Around here they stop people with guns going onto aircraft at the search points. The newspaper occasionally runs a number, like "13 people tried to get on a plane with a gun" last year or whatever. But I think a lot of the searches are overkill, and not just on planes. You can't even take a purse into a concert anymore. You have to put everything in a see-through bag. It's ridiculous.

  5. Your comment about over-regulation of commercial flights and the total lack of such on private flights is on point and most concerning ! I'm also thankful for the rain ! Living in the Pine Barrens is an interesting mix of beauty and danger .
