Still Rebuilding After 5 years!

Hurricane Sandy was 5 years ago now and this summer our town is just beginning to start some of the recovery in this section of town.
The crane and the bulldozer are there to shore up the land bridge and repair the damaged beaches.
This little road has bay on either side of it and directly ahead. A peninsula is what I mean to say. It was badly damaged by Sandy and this is where we love to go. Homes along this road are just this year up on stilts which are a major undertaking.
When homes stand in water the black mold etc make the house uninhabitable and they have to be torn down. Some had to do that. Others had to repair and rebuild parts of their homes It was in October and we had no electricity for a long time. It was freezing cold. I remember it very well sitting in the dark house bundled up in blankets to try to keep warm. Texas is still flooded. Imagine what they will have to go through. Keep up your prayers for their recovery.

If you are in the path of Irma.. Get out quickly. Do not wait!
Remember what Proverbs 22  teaches:  "The wise man sees trouble coming down the road and gets out of the way.  The fool passes on and will suffer for it."
Don't tempt God!

Depressing news.. but here are some pretty sunsets to counteract my Debbie Downer news.

I am participating in a month long meme. This is day 5 and here is the question and answer.

5. Where did all the kids "hang" in your hometown.
That depended on the neighborhood. Each one had a different place to go even though it is a tiny town.
Older kids could go to "Rec" on the weekends to dance.
Most hung out on the playgrounds of the elementary schools or the high school.

Rest in Peace Sandy

My dear little pal passed away tonight at around 6:42.
For the last year, since my black lab Brandy passed away, Sandy has pined away. He went from chubby to skeletal thin. Nothing he ate put weight on him. I couldn't afford a vet anymore and so as long as he was bright eyed and able to play I let him be.
The last month however, he was throwing up a bit after eating. Not always, but enough that I couldnt keep even a little weight on him.
Then today he threw up a bit of blood and I knew he was going. He had a little stroke I think, went into a coma. Two hours later he was gone. Another friend lost in the fall.

This was a kitty who loved EVERYONE. Gentle, sociable, loving. Never stand offish or a loner. He was with his brother and his *dog*.
He stayed by his dear friend Brandy during her long illness.
He stayed by me while I worked. He was more than just a pet. He was a family member.
His brother, Garfield knew something was happening and is beside himself right now.
He will need a lot of love.
Everyone loved this cat. Even strangers who would come fell in love because, as they said, they never met animals like these who were so friendly and sweet.
It's true. They had sweet spirits . Garfield still is with me and also is sociable and sweet.

He and brothers and sisters were born in this dresser, in a bottom drawer.
Around 5 o'clock when he collapsed, I put him into a drawer and placed it on my piano bench so I could take better care of him.
<---This photo to the left is from last year when a drawer broke and I removed it to repair. He would climb up and sleep in the drawers.

Today he passed away quickly in the same drawer in which he was born.
I am going to miss him so doggone much.
How I despise death. What an enemy it is. I long for that day when it is no more.

Iyov (Job) 12 :You have only to ask the cattle, for them to instruct you, and the birds of the sky, for them to inform you. The creeping things of earth will give you lessons, and the fish of the sea provide you an explanation: there is not one such creature but will know that the hand of God has arranged things like this! In his hand is the soul of every living thing and the breath of every human being!
Tehillim (psalms) 50: For all forest creatures are mine already, the animals on the mountains in their thousands. I know every bird in the air, whatever moves in the fields is mine

Heading for the Weekend

Sandy in his drawer
I have had this dresser for a long time. It was a finish it yourself piece that has had a few transformations.
This cat and his siblings were born in this dresser.
One afternoon, his mother, the tiniest cat I had ever seen, (she perpetually looked like a kitten) wandered in through an open back door, made herself at home in a drawer that was open to have its lining changed.. and gave birth to her kittens!
The mother cat was a Tortoiseshell we named Vicki.
We gave away most of the kittens to our local vet whose assistants wanted to adopt them, but the mother and two boys stayed with us til she finally wandered off a few years ago now. The kids named the kittens Garfield and Sandy.
When the bottom of the top drawer gave out and was removed for repair, Sandy moved into it and found a nice sleeping spot for a bit. After all, he was born there. It was home.

Its a gorgeous day out, sunny and cool as we head on into the week end.
I hope your weekend will be spectacular and sunny in every way.
