"Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love to answer the questions, however, and here is today's questions!
Saturday 9: You'd Be So Nice To Come Home To (1943)"
Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.
Dinah Shore |
1) In this song, Dinah Shore goes on about listening to the breeze. Is it windy, breezy, or still where you are today?
Windy! We have strong gusty winds today (Fri afternoon)!
Just as FYI for you: The name Dinah is pronounced Die-na by most but in Hebrew it is Dee-Na which is the correct pronunciation.
2) The August moon is bright in Dinah's musical fantasy. Let's look at your calendar. Is anything special coming up in August (birthdays, anniversaries, vacation getaways ...)?
Nothing special is coming up.
3) Dinah was one of TV's pioneers. Her first show was a 15-minute variety show that ran two nights/week in 1951. 1the most recent show you watched?
4) She followed that in 1956 with the Dinah Shore Chevy Show. It was an hour long and sponsored by the car company. At the end of every show Dinah encouraged her viewers to "see the USA in your Chevrolet …" Today Chevrolets are still the most popular cars manufactured by General Motors. Tell us about your car.
I don't really have anything to say.

5) From 1970 to 1991, Dinah hosted daytime TV talk shows and found tremendous success, winning 6 Emmy Awards and repeatedly appearing in the Gallup Poll of America's most admired women. Do you remember her?
Yes, I remember Dinah Shore. I remember her Chevy commercials. "See the USA in your Chevrolet"
6) Dinah was such an avid golfer that, in 1972, she founded one of the LPGA's major tournaments.
Though now officially titled The Chevron Championship, it's still often referred to as "The Dinah Shore" in her memory. Do you golf? If not, would you like to learn?
I don't golf but in the past I had wanted to try.
7) In 1943, when "You'd Be So Nice To Come Home To" was popular, so were tablecloths. It was common to have cotton tablecloths for everyday use, fun and festive ones for 4th of July and Christmas, and linen for formal occasions. Do you use tablecloths in your home?
Yes. I don't think they are out of style or anything. I always use a tablecloth and I have a ton of them both formal and informal.
8) Beatle George Harrison was born in 1943. Which of the Fab Four is your favorite?
None of them. I never liked m much. I was turned off by the screaming girls that were hired to greet them at the airports, etc. Ridiculous and fake, not to mention they used studio musicians to play for them etc. Many studio musicians, especially the Wrecking Crew (and others) admit now that the Beatles didn't even write their own music. Now, that's find as long as you don't pretend you actually did!
What kind of trailer? If you mean a mobile home, then that would be the choice as a houseboat would be too much trouble. Living by the water is great...until its not and then it is darn dangerous.
If you mean a trailer on a car or something then no way. Too small and claustrophobic looking.
Neither one appeals to me really. I like houses … big houses too. When you have a disability you need plenty of room.
I had never heard any of that about the Beatles before. That's interesting.
ReplyDeleteA friend of mine had a mobile home that was 36ft long and had parts of it on each side which popped out so the end result looked like a normal large living room.
ReplyDeleteI think I knew that about the Beatles. Wishing you a beautiful week ahead, my friend.
ReplyDeleteWe always go camping with the parachute group in September and they have those large caravans on a special area. Thy're not exactly trailer, but they are large.
ReplyDeleteLast year a new one was added. It had a wide entrance... plenty of room to turn around with a wheelchair, and a large toilet (with rail) and large shower.
The doors were sliding ones, so no room was lost... I had to point out though that the kitchen facility was a bit too high for someone in a wheelchair. Which was a pity, as the intention was very good.
Enjoy your week!
