That's Entertainment!

Welcome once again to Toni Taddeo's Tuesday 4... I am so happy you continue to participate and I know Toni would be as well. I miss our talks. We were very much alike and shared so many of the same interests. Actually  I never met anyone like her before and I miss our talks so very much.

Let's talk about entertainment, okay?

1. Do you have an actor or actress whose movies you hate to miss?

There are a few I enjoy a lot: Bette Davis, Joan Crawford , Diane Keaton,Jack Nicholson .

2. Is there a movie or TV program you could watch over and over again?

Moonstruck and You've Got Mail..and the TV Series One Tree Hill and City Confidential, Perry Mason or Andy Griffith Show.. I like them all. You can find the old shows on YouTube if you are interested.

3. Do you have a list of books or magazines you are hoping to read over the summer? Would you share it with us?  Bonus: do you make a cuppa something or a snack when you read?

I will have a c up of  very hot strong tea with lots of milk. I might re=read for the thousandth time Summer in the City ,  44 Charles Street, and One Fifth Avenue by Candace Bushnell.

4.  What kind of music do you enjoy listening to?

All kinds from Rock to Classical. I am very partial to today's country music as well.  I like Jason Aldean's Got what I Got very much.

Life for me is up in the air. So I am late with posting and visiting. I hope you will understand and bear with me.

Stolen Questions!

Bev Sykes of the blog "Funny the World" supplies us with questions each week.. here are my answers.

 Stolen from Sign Up Genius

   1. Do you like or dislike surprises? Why or why not?

I do not like them, I find them troubling and I do not like to be presented with things I don't know about.  Gifts is one thing but surprise meetings, visits, parites... no thank you.
   2. In the evening, would you rather play a game, visit a relative, watch a movie, or read?

Visit and play games too!
   3. Would you rather vacation in Hawaii or Alaska, and why?

I would like both for their lovely ocean and mountains.
   4. Would you rather win the lottery or work at the perfect job? And why?

Win the lottery. They say money can't buy happiness but that is a crock of horse poo. Money CAN buy happiness. If you are hungry it buys food, if you need shelter.. a home. If you have no clothing it will buy those as well.  Yes, to those without money can indeed buy quite a lot of happiness. There is no joy in being in poverty.

   5. If you could go back in time, what year would you travel to?

Perhaps 1957.. seems like a good time.
   6. Aside from necessities, what one thing could you not go a day without?

Binaural beats for healing and my face yoga and abdominal exercises.
   7. How many pairs of shoes do you own?

I own 8 pairs of shoes.
   8. What would you do if you won the lottery?

Buy a home,  a car, furniture and pay for my friends and families needs.

   9. What form of public transportation do you prefer? (air, boat, train, bus, car, etc.)

 None of them.
   10. What's your favorite zoo animal?

They are all pretty nice to visit.  I do like giraffes though.
   11. If you could go back in time to change one thing, what would it be?

The Reformation. It did so much damage to world history. It nearly ruined all of Europe and certainly gave inroads to the Ottomans.  Since then the divisions have become ridiculous and ruined the Church in so many ways.  The answer to problems in religion/government is to correct them, not destroy the body with division.
   12. How many pillows do you sleep with?

3 pillows, 1 body pillow.
   13. What's the longest you've gone without sleep (and why)?

over 50 hours caring for my mother.
   14. What's the tallest building you've been to the top in?

not a building but the Statue of Liberty.
   15.  What are your hobbies?

Games, painting and crafts, rodeo, photography.

Thanks Bev...

Hi friends.. today is Saturday 9.. hosted by Sam Winters. One Bad Apple (1971)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) This song is a play on the old saying that one bad apple can spoil the bunch, or that the bad behavior of one member can reflect badly on the whole group. Do you think that's true?

Yup.Very true. You will never change a bad person but they will corrupt you every time.

2) The Osmonds began as The Osmond Brothers, a barbershop quartet that performed at the original Disneyland in Anaheim, California. Today there are 9 Disney Resorts all around the world, as far away as Shanghai. Have you ever been to a Walt Disney property?
No and I never will until they clean up their act significantly.. They fired hundreds of American workers in order to hire foreign workers and made the Americans train their replacements. Ugly my friends. There are other very ugly allegations about them.

3) By the time the Osmonds made this record, Donny had joined the group and became their breakout star. Without looking it up, can you name any of the other four brothers who performed in video clip?
Merril, Jay, Alan and Wayne

4) In the 1970s, adolescent girls learned through teen magazines that Donny's favorite color is purple, and that he was especially fond of purple socks. Today, socks are a very big business. There are designer sock manufacturers and even a sock of the month club. Is there a wardrobe item you're very particular about?
Under clothing, shoes and jeans.

5) Donny and younger sister Marie had their own TV variety show. One regular segment had them performing a medley of popular songs, and it began with Marie singing, "I'm a little bit country," followed by Donny's musical reply, "I'm a little bit rock and roll." In this regard, are you more like sister or brother?
I am a cross between the two.

6) Donny's popularity continues today. Fans have seen him win Dancing with the Stars (season 9) and come in as a runner up on the first season of The Masked Singer. Do you watch either of these shows -- or other competition series, like American Idol, The Voice, America's Got Talent, etc.?
No, I don't watch them at all.

7) Donny has also appeared on Broadway. He surprised audiences and got rave reviews as arrogant bad guy Gaston in Disney's Beauty and the Beast. Tell us about a time when your behavior surprised those who know you well.
I can't think of anything except my humor.

8) Donny is also a grandfather, many times over! Sam admits she's not crazy about that revelation because it makes her feel old. What's something that makes you feel your years?

My poor back!

9) Random question: We're filling a pinata with your favorite candies. What should we buy?
 Snickers!

Questions...???

Welcome to Tuesday 4 in honor of Toni Taddeo...

1. Do you have a favorite movie to recommend?

You've Got Mail, Metropolitan (Whit Stillman's movie), The Majestic, The Saint, The Illusionist, Moonstruck, The Desk Set, An Affair to Remember, Airport 1970, Pink Panther, Adam's Rib, Bishop's Wife, A Christmas Carol.   This list is from my profile.  A Christmas Carol is my all time favorite book and the George C. Scott version is my favorite movie, not because of Christmas but because of the message which applies no matter what your religious beliefs. The message is that it costs little to be kind and thoughtful to others. It does a good job of showing that.

2. Do you have a schedule for your day or do you wing it?   I wing it almost always.  Since my back went south things have to be that way.  When I was giving hospice care it was even more that way.

3. What are you  eating/cooking  lately?   I stay away from carbs almost completely. I am a meat and veggie girl with an occasional orange thrown in for good measure!     When kids were home I used to make my own bread, my own mayonnaise, my own turkey salami.. all that good stuff and cooking was more adventurous!

4.  Do you surf on your computer? Tell us about it, won't you?

I read on Twitter, and I look at what my friends post on Facebook. I  have a ton of YouTube channels that I am fond of and learn a lot from as well.  I also watch movies on YouTube, Netflix, Hulu...but I can also get them on my television.

Thank you for joining in. I have been awol lately because of death in the family and now because of uncertainly in life but I am trying to keep up with Tuesday 4 at least.  I hope my visiting around picks up more as days go by.  I would appreciate prayers for my situation as it isn't an easy road right now. Thank you friends for your kind words over the years. I have made some lovely friends on the internet over the years.

I went out for the first time in a long time Saturday night. We went to the rodeo which was wonderful as I've not been in years and it used to be a regular thing when I lived in Utah. As some of you know I love barrel racing and I got my fill Saturday night!     New Jersey's Cowtown rodeo is the oldest and longest running rodeo in the United States.

It's a dark, cool, rainy day today and I am grateful for it....

Sunday Stealing

It's time to steal, so here is my Sunday Stealing for this week!

1. When is the last time you went out to a meal with someone special? Tell us about it.
It's been a long time. I went out with family back sometime last summer or so.  It was not a nice time as a family member was coming down with cancer and we did not realize it at the time. They were unable to swallow their food.

2. Show us a picture of your favorite cuisine.

That would be British food, which I love. Roast beef, potatoes, Yorkshire pudding, roasted carrots and Brussels sprouts, lots of gravy.. oh be still my heart.

Roast Beef /Yorkshire pudding

3. What is the funniest thing a man/woman has said to you lately?  Not too much funny going on lately.  I did have some fun talking horses with the hospice nurse and the Famous Anonymous though the other morning.

4. What makes a gentleman a gentleman in today’s dating world? Are there any left?  Not many, I fear. A gentleman opens doors, shows concern, protects his lady, watches his language, takes care of business. Makes sure things go smoothly. I think it is lovely when a man treats a woman like a lady.

5. Is there anything you won’t tolerate when out to dinner with your significant other?  I have not been out to dinner with a significant other in over 24 years or more.  I can imagine that I would not appreciate a loud, rude person with no manners. But I would hope I would not have a significant other who was any of those things.

6. What type of ambiance do you enjoy in an eating establishment?  Quiet, soft music and low lighting.

7. Tell us about the worst public dining experience you ever had, whether it be a date or with your family.
My friend and I ordered from a local place for some fish and chips. We got rooked on the price and the quality. It was a very nice place but now he is gouging prices and skimping badly on the food.  I guess the  jailer's lock down did  a lot of financial damage.  There have been other times food was very substandard and that is always a big let down.

8. What is the lamest or rudest thing a man/woman has said to you lately?   There have been a few things that hurt my feelings lately but, I tend to forget those things quickly.

9. Are you a good tipper?  I try to be, yes.

10. Do you ask for doggie bags when you leave food on your plate at a restaurant?   Often I do if I can't eat it all.

11. What is your pet peeve about restaurants and dining out in general?  Loud, obnoxious music, rude, or loud patrons, a poor wait staff, food thrown together carelessly.
12. Do you prefer to order yourself or do you ever let your significant other order for you?
Its been far too long since I was out with a date.. I have no idea any more. But it would be nice if he did as long as he asked me first.

13. Describe your most intimate romantic dinner ever. (fantasy or real)  Well it would have to be fantasy since that has never happened in real life.  I am not sure I find dinner romantic in the first place but, if the place was intimate, quiet with subdued music , low lights and a private place to sit near one another...that might be very nice.  You know it would be romantic to eat a big tub of fresh french fries(skin on and freshly cut and fried) alone by the water. Just sharing a snack and alone time. I'd like that. Or even just a cup of coffee by the water, etc.

14. Do you enjoy piano bars?  Never been to one. I have been to a restaurant with a pianist but I find it hard to appreciate music in a place like that. It's nice in the background but if I want to hear piano I would like to concentrate on it.

15. If you could go anywhere in the world for dinner, where would it be and who would you be with?
These questions are hard for me... I tend not to dream. They never come true and I find it futile and sad to do so.

You'll Never Know....

I am joining in for Saturday 9 again this week.

 Saturday 9: You'll Never Know (1943)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) In this song, Haymes sings he must have reassured his girl "a million times or more." Does it frustrate you when you have to repeat yourself?
Sometimes, yes. It depends on the situation and I think its annoying when someone just isn't paying attention.

2) The lyrics were inspired by a poem written by a war bride to her soldier husband. Have you ever been in a long-distance romance?
Yes

3) This was the biggest hit of Dick Haymes, a popular singer in the 1940s. He got his big break when he replaced Frank Sinatra, who left the Tommy Dorsey Band to go onto bigger and better things. Are you a Frank Sinatra fan?
Both Dick Haymes and Frank Sinatra had wonderful voices but I think Haymes had a better voice over all for much longer. Sinatra's voice went downhill over the years. But, popularity in those industries is also a matter of some very ugly stuff.....

4) During the 1940s Dick Haymes toured with the Dorsey Band, made hit records, had his own radio show and appeared in nine movie musicals.  Yet by the early 1950s, he was broke. Part of it was that musical tastes changed, but more of it was that he enjoyed night life and high living too much. If you wanted to shave unnecessary expenses from your budget, where would you economize?
There isn't much I can economize at all. I buy only things I need to live. I am broke.
5) He blamed his money problems for his ongoing hypertension. How do you combat stress?
Peace and quiet work nicely.
6) Though he needed his voice to sing and suffered from high blood pressure, Haymes was a chain smoker. What bad habit would you like to quit?
I really don't have any real habits.

7) Though raised since early childhood in the US, Haymes was born in Buenos Aires to an Argentinian rancher and his Irish wife. This enabled Dick to claim Irish citizenship later in life. Have you ever lived abroad? If not, do you wish to?
I've never lived abroad and I really don't want to.

8) Dick Haymes never regained his popularity as a singer. After touring Europe for years, he returned to the United States in the late 1960s and tried his hand as a dramatic actor, playing small parts on popular cop shows like Adam 12, McMillan and  McCloud. If you had to support yourself as a performer, would you be more successful as a singer, a dancer, or an actor?
Actor I suppose.
9) Random Question: We're at the booth of a gypsy fortune teller. Would you be more embarrassed if she loudly and correctly guessed your age, or your weight?
No. It's all for fun anyway.
