About Home

Welcome to Tuesday 4, inspired and kept up in memory of Toni Taddeo.

This week, let's talk about home.

1. Do you like the way your home is decorated or would you tweak things a bit if budget allowed?
I like some things and not others. Its a mix up of Victorian and traditional things I've bought or inherited. I would like a more cohesive look.

2.. Do you have any plans/dreams to change anything about your home ?

I would love to have a big house. Tiny homes are for the birds, literally. There is no storage, no place to move around, not enough room for the company I love to have over. Nope, not a fan of small homes or the new trend of downsizing.  And believe me, if you ever become disabled you will be sorry you downsized. You really will.  I

3. What style of furniture do you have or want  to have in your home and why?
I like the traditional look. It lasts through the years and is always in style.

4. Tell us about your ideal dream house or dream kitchen if you prefer.
My dream house is big and I would enjoy living in a larger scale Victorian like the one in which I grew up.

Sunday Thievery!

Stealing is wrong. Just wrong. But, if you are a Sunday thief, well, it is perfectly okay so, go right ahead.

And I am going ahead myself with this week's list of questions:

""Hi! I'm your host Bev Sykes of the blog "Funny the World".   Welcome to Sunday Stealing. This feature originated and published on WTIT: The Blog. Here we will steal all types of questions from every corner of the blogosphere. Our promise to you is that we will work hard to find the most interesting and intelligent questions. Cheers to all of us thieves!
My friend, author, artist and theater critic Alec Clayton decided to write a series of more complicated questions to answer during this corona virus time, when we are all looking for something to do if we are staying home.  I thought his questions intriguing."

1. If there's a personal god, what quality would you most like that person to have (and why)?
I believe there is a personal God because He deals not only with nations but individuals.  I also respect Him enough to know that I cannot demand things of Him or state what he "should' be or attempt to describe Him.
Now if you mean a personal god in the manner of it being some human being, that is really an awful thought, but the answer to the quality would have to be mercy.

2. What's your death-row meal?
I would be too sick to my stomach to eat.

3. Assuming we make it through this outbreak with minimal loss of life, what do you think our big takeaway should be?
Don't let the government handle your life for you or remove your rights from you no matter what the cost and make washing your hands a regular thing. Many people are just too uncleanly. Don't follow blindly, don't believe everything you hear. Learn.. learn , learn and use your brains!
And side note.. we made it through lots worse.

4. Whom do you find yourself missing more than you would've predicted?

No one. I am alone most of the time and the result is I am used to it and don't miss anyone anymore. I am happy with myself and like my own company.

5. What brings you the most joy? Not happiness, not contentment -- JOY.

Being outside smelling cedar and pine is nice  but then again, I am not sure how joy might differ from happiness really. Webster defines it as  "a feeling of great pleasure and happiness." It is simply a synonym for happiness.
Middle English: from Old French joie, based on Latin gaudium, from gaudere ‘rejoice’. Both Latin, Greek and Hebrew define it as being satisfied and happy. So I don't see a difference at all.

6. Do you find yourself regretting anything you've said or done on social media?

What I regret isn't what I have said but how others react. People are way too fragile today and uneducated on the whole .  People today are so easily offended and reject things out of hand if it doesn't jell with their preconceived notions.  Many react emotionally to things without looking at the entire picture especially in crisis or perceived crisis situations. They are "triggered". That's a dangerous way to live your life. In old movies that was the person who destroyed things for everyone else, the weak link so to speak who turned everyone else in or was a coward.

7. What are your favorite and least favorite things about your body and face?
I think my eyebrows are a bit thin.
I think my nose is good. For anthropologists out there, it is typically ango-saxon or hyperleptorrhine .

8. and your life?
Favorite thing would be my kids and least favorite that I never met a  man who was decent.

9. How's the self-isolation affecting your libido?
Nothing has changed and what that means is no one's business at all.

10. Which three places in the physical universe would you most like to visit?
Prince Edward Island again, Montana, Northern Idaho

11. On whom did you have a crush years ago?     Have you ever told them?
Don't know and and no I would not tell someone.

12. How have your religious views changed since you were in high school?
I am way smarter now.      I am more solid in my religious belief and more educated.as far as beliefs go.

13. If you could change one law, what would it be?
Dual citizenship in the US.  It is dead wrong. You cannot be faithful to two different nations at the same time. So pick one and live in it.   It was once illegal and for very good reasons!

14. If you could add one commandment to the original ten, what would it be?
I don't have that much chutzpah.

Tuesday 4 questions go up later tonight. Hope you will join in.

Connie Francis And Sat 9

Hello. Another week has passed by and the weekend is upon us. We are promised rain for Saturday.. as I am writing this very late Thursday night, I won't know for a bit. While the weather might be chilly and rainy, Saturday 9 is not usually either of those, so we can visit there for a bit.
Welcome to Saturday 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love memes, however, and here is today's meme!

 Saturday 9: Everybody's Somebody's Fool (1960)
Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

I've seen Connie in old movies like Where the Boys Are and enjoyed her singing. I am a  fan of old movies and old songs.

1) Next Wednesday is April Fool's Day. Do you have any pranks planned? Do you expect to fall victim to any April Fool's Day mischief?
Nope. Usually don't participate and am not into that at all.

2) When she was a kid, Crazy Sam would fool her mom by putting bubble wrap under the bath map so there would be a POP! when her mother stepped on it. When you encounter bubble wrap, do you always indulge in a pop or two?

Yes. if I won't reuse it I do.

3) While we're using this song to celebrate April Fool's Day, it was written about another subject entirely: heartbreak. The lyrics tell us that at some point, we each get our hearts broken by someone who doesn't love us as much as we love them. Do you think that's true?

I know it's true. It is 100% true.

4) In 1962, this week's featured Connie Francis published a book aimed at teens called For Every Young Heart. It addressed topics like going steady and schoolwork vs. social life. Do you ever read advice columns or self-help books?

I've read a few books on psychology etc.  but otherwise no. .

5) Connie Francis can play the accordion. Sam has never met anyone adept at this complicated instrument -- not even in her high school band. What about you? Do you play the accordion, or do you know anyone who can?
I've known several people who played the accordion very well, yes.

6) In 1960, when this record was popular, Harper Lee's classic To Kill a Mockingbird was published. Have you read it?

No, I am not interested  in books of that type. Wouldn't have read it even if it had been assigned in high school  or university which is was not.

7) Also in 1960, one of Life magazine's best-selling issues had Sophia Loren on the cover. At that time, she was an international film star and considered one of the world's most beautiful women. Who do you consider one of 2020's most beautiful women?

No one I can think of at the present time. Many are attractive, but beautiful is a whole different category.
When I think of beautiful I think Elizabeth Taylor or Gene Tierney or Jaclyn Smith.

8) A 1960 issue of Vogue acknowledged how expensive it had become to maintain a fashionable wardrobe and asked, "If you were to buy only one thing, what would it be?" If it's good enough for Vogue, it's good enough for Saturday 9: If you could purchase only one new article of clothing for spring 2020, what would you buy?

A nice retro dress. Maybe something 1930ish. I like the languid styles of the 30's very much.

9) Random question: When someone makes you really angry, are you more likely to respond with stony silence or a big noise?

It depends on the situation.  Mostly I will write the person off.  Not every situation calls for the same response so I just can't say what I would do.

See you for Sunday Stealing fellow thieves!

Memories in Photos

My blog was begun not for others, but for me and my family as a journal. It's gotten away from that in a way, but this post is most definitely for me and will hold some memories.
Online, I found these photos of our first apartment in Murray,  Utah and had to save them.
I was happy there something I've not been in a long, long time.
 Good memories for me.
They are evidently sold as condominiums now .

we crossed little bridge on little cottonwood to our apartment.

Hodge Podge

from Brambly Hedge

Welcome to Tuesday 4 begun by Toni Taddeo and kept up in memory of her.

Here are the questions for this week:

1. Who inspires you and why?
I am very inspired by Mrs. Rose Kennedy. She endured the deaths of many of her children and had a relatively difficult life in her marriage I think. She was stalwart, brave, and a lady at all times.

2. Convince us to read  one of your favorite books.
One of my favorite books is 'David Copperfield' It is funny, sad, happy and inspiring all at the same time. And, it is written by  Dickens.. what more can you ask?
It is a look back at a by-gone century and worth the time to read.
Read David Copperfield by Charles Dickens free at Project Gutenberg.
3. What meal does your family just love and will you share the recipe?
My family love my cholent (Dafina) which is really pot roast cooked until it is super dead!
HERE is my recipe
And you have to add kishka to it.. which I love!  Recipe HERE
My spaghetti also is well loved and my stuffed cabbage goes quickly. I thnk my meatloaf is their all time favorite but everyone has their own recipe for that.

4.  In Brambly Hedge they make Rose Petal Jam.
What kind do you like and why?
I like tomato jam and violet or rose jam. Tomato jam is easier to get though.
Below is my own recipes for violets. You can substitute rose petals for the violets but they must be never sprayed with insecticide!
Here is my recipe for Crystallized Violets and Violet Jam. Thank you for joining in! Don't forget to visit all the others who join in as well. The idea is to make friends.

Music Monday

It's Music Monday  It's amazing how music can heal or set the background for a life.

If my choices aren't your kind of music, give them a chance, hear them out and expand your thinking, expand your experience. It 's not good to remain static in life. You have to step out.So give other people's music choices a change.

I chose first  this great cover of Bad Company by 5 Finger Death Punch.  This video is great and the lead singer  Zoltan Bathory has a great voice.  He also has ties to the military
Zoltan is a martial artist and is one of the few civilians certified by the Pentagon and US Army as an L1 Modern Army Combatives Instructor  for Close Combat

Then I picked John Legend's  All of Me from last year  which is like a complete 180 from the other song.

And finally, Lewis Capaldi singing Someone You Loved, a beautiful emotional song. which is brand new this year. He has a great voice.

Ludwig Von Beethoven

Weather in NJ warm 80 ° F and humid today. Humidity is for the birds but good on the complexion, they say. Whoever they are.
Outside my window the peepers in my yard are LOUD for such tiny little buys.
> However, Saturday 9 is good for you and will probably also clear up your complexion and help you lose weight, you fatty you.... so here we go.

Welcome to Saturday: 9.

Complete Symphonies (2019)
Ludwig Von Beethoven

This week we're classing up the joint with a well-received box-set by the Danish Chamber Orchestra. You can listen to the orchestra here. ( i used   YouTube since I don't want to go to Spotify)

1) Beethoven is one of classical music's best known composers. Do you often listen to classical music?

Yes, I do. Very often.

2) Though a musical genius, Beethoven never learned to multiply or divide. When faced with a simple arithmetic problem, do you do it in your head? Or do you rely on the calculator in your phone or on your computer?

I do it in my head or use paper. Using a calculator is a sure way to destroy your mind and your IQ will be lowered.

3) Beethoven bathed often, which was considered "quirky" for a man of his time. (Understandable, since you had the heat the water, haul it to the tub, and then empty the tub bucket by bucket when you were done.) Do you bathe in the morning or in the evening?

Night as I don't like to go to bed and dirty the sheets, etc. I wash hair in daytime, so I shower then too. However, if you ever must use the old method.. do it this way... Lather up outside the tub.. Stand in a tub and rinse with fresh water. Don't sit in a bathtub and then have to rinse with dirty water. In summer, use cool water, you won't melt I promise you.

4) Adam Fischer conducts the Danish Chamber Orchestra for this 5-disc set. He began his musical career young, when he sang in the children's choir of Budapest's National Opera House. Have you ever sung in a choir or chorus?

Yes, choirs, choruses and A Capella groups both.

5) Mr. Fischer was awarded the Gold Medal of Arts from the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC. Tell us about a prize or award you have received. (Yes, that ribbon you earned for penmanship in second grade counts.)

I've won medals for track, riding.

6) The Danish Chamber Orchestra is beloved in Denmark. When, in 2014, the Danish Broadcasting Company announced it would no longer fund the Orchestra, citizens began a crowdfunding campaign and raised more than $1,000,000 to keep the music playing. Have you ever contributed to a crowdfunding platform, like GoFundMe, Kickstarter or FundRazr?

No.

7) The Orchestra's "home" is the Royal Danish Conservatory of Music in Copenhagen. Where were you when you last heard music played live?

The Metropolitan Opera house in New York City.

8) In 2019, when this boxed set was released, China became the first nation to land a spacecraft on the far side of the moon. Are you fascinated by stories about space?

No. Not interested in junk science or propaganda.

9) Random question: Tell us about your week. These are extraordinary times, and it might feel good to share.

Nothing new here for me not going anywhere.
Humanity has gone through much worse without so much whining. Its truly sad to hear it all.
There was a stone age, iron age, bronze age, and now we are in the Snowflake age. I opted out of it.

Odd'N' Ends

This week is just some odds and end type questions..

1.   Ever been to a Drive In Theater? Would you like to see Drive In Theaters make a come back?
Yes, I used to love the drive in and I do wish they would make a comeback, though with today's lawlessness, I think there might be problems with robbery and assaults.

2.  Should towns provide community entertainment like
bands in the park, fireworks on the 4rth, community picnics or is the cost just too much?
I think a town celebration for the Fourth of July is nice.
Our town does a concert and fireworks every Wednesday but we are a tourist/summer home type community and it keeps people happy I suppose. The boardwalk does fireworks every Wednesday night in summer.
Concerts are in the park also on Wednesday nights.

3.  What would you change about your town if you had the power?
I want sidewalks and street repairs done by people who actually know what they are doing.  We just don't have sidewalks and are terribly rural in that way. Its unsafe I think.  I also want them to go back to 2 garbage days a week in summer like it used to be. Get rid of the automated trucks and give men back their jobs too.

4. My  little high school offered 3 courses of education:  Business, University track and General education where you could also major in shop , carpentry, home economics and metal working, etc.

Would you like to see schools bring back business courses, shop classes and home
economics?
Well, since I made up the questions and it is my high school I mentioned, Yes!!  Many girls went from high school into secretarial jobs that lead to being executive assistant jobs that were well paying.  Boys could become carpenters, etc.  I think we need to go back to that form of education.  Even kids like me in the university track took some secretarial courses to learn to type, etc.  And all the girls took 6 years of home economics/home management classes.

I hope you enjoyed this week' s questions. If you have any suggestions please let  me know, won't you?

High Waving Heather

High waving heather, 'neath stormy blasts bending,
Midnight and moonlight and bright shining stars; Darkness and glory rejoicingly blending,
Earth rising to heaven and heaven descending, Man's spirit away from its drear dongeon
sending,
Bursting the fetters and breaking the bars
.
 All down the mountain sides, wild forest lending One mighty voice to the life-giving wind;
Rivers their banks in the jubilee rending, Fast through the valleys a reckless course wending, Wider and deeper their waters extending, Leaving a desolate desert behind.

Shining and lowering and swelling and dying,
Changing for ever from midnight to noon;
Roaring like thunder, like soft music sighing,
Shadows on shadows advancing and flying,
Lightning-bright flashes the deep gloom defying,
Coming as swiftly and fading as soon.

Taking Kathleen Home

Week? What week .. it flew by so fast I missed it!  So, I better grab this weekend and hold on fast.
But I will not be missing Saturday 9.... so here we go.

"Welcome to Saturday: 9. We love memes, however, and here is today's meme!"

I'll Take You Home Again, Kathleen (1975)

Chosen because St. Patrick's Day is Tuesday.

Unfamiliar with this week's song? Hear it below:

1) This week's song is widely considered a traditional Irish ballad. Are you of Irish descent?
 It's in there, yes.

2) It's a song from a groom to his homesick bride. Who did you most recently serenade? (Yes, "Happy Birthday" counts.)

Myself, since I sing to myself every day.

3) Kathleen considers "home" her mother's cottage. How about you? Is "home" where you live now, or is it where you grew up?
Where I grew up.
4) St. Patrick is credited with driving snakes out of Ireland, and to this day the Irish report there are no snakes on their land. Ophiophobia is the fear of snakes. Do you suffer from ophiophobia?
No. Not phobic about it.
Yes,  St. Patrick did drive snakes out of Ireland.. the snakes were the  heathens.
5) Irish Americans held the first St. Patrick's Day parade on our shores in New York City in 1766. Does your town host a St. Patrick's Day parade?
There is a St Patrick's Day flag raising and party in town , yes.

I wear more gold.

7) The signature color of St. Patrick's Day is green. Will you wear green next Tuesday?
I wear green everyday as my eyes are green.

8) This week's featured artist, Elvis, was the idol of millions. But not the Songfellows. In the early 1950s, a young Elvis auditioned for this gospel group and they refused him. Just as well, as the King of Rock 'n Roll did rather well for himself as a solo. Like Elvis, did you ever interview for a job that you didn't get?
Yes. At 36 I was told I was too old and the job went to a kid fresh out of high school so they could pay her less. May the sewers of Rangoon back up into their breakfast from now until evermore.
9) Random question: Do you believe women are more emotional than men?

 Yes, of course they are.

Tomorrow is Sunday Stealing and later that night Tuesday 4 meme questions go up on the other blog.

Thanks for visiting, Come again.

The Sky Above! Tuesday 4 #10

Welcome Friends to another Tuesday 4 started by Toni Taddeo and kept up in honor and memory of her.

Let's talk about the sky above us okay?

1. Some people have a pet planet or a planet they think is cool. What about you?
Since I am born in November, Jupiter is my ruling planet they say. I guess i will go with that. I also like the music associated with it by Gustav Holst. Jupiter is the ruling planet for Sagittarius

2. Whether you believe in astrology or not, you do have a "sign". What is yours and do you fit the description in any way?
I am  Sagittarius.(so was Toni by the way)
from an astrology site: and I fit it pretty well I would think.
"Wild, feisty, independent and exciting, Sagittarian women are arguably the wild child of the zodiac. Adventurous, fun loving, sociable and friendly, they are typically determined to live life to the fullest. This is an honest woman, a straight shooter who speaks her mind.
Deep thinkers ,  wild and free , level headed, intelligent, difficult to fool, athletic, brutally honest., curiosity level is off the charts, they are very independent and very outgoing."

3. Do you stay up late to watch meteorite showers or crane your head to see the clouds in the daytime?
Yes to both. I love to watch meteor showers but tough to find companions to do it with. People are just not  up for it. They want to be in bed early and sleep ! Hmm..

4. Do you think money is wasted on the space program that might be better used on earth?
Yup. Very much so.
I am reminded of what Werner Von Braun said about it all.. fake, fake, fake. And who would know better than Dr. Von Braun?
